“Wonderful introduction to India”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

The Shanti Home was our first introduction to the country of India. We arrived late in the evening and had a connecting flight at 11AM the next morning. Shanti Home's driver picked us up from the airport and their staff warmly welcomed us to their hotel and country and provided an exceptional experience for my daughter and me. The room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom spacious. In addition, when we returned to New Delhi with a 12 hour layover and uncertainty about how to see the city in this short amount of time, they picked us up from the airport, provided facilities for freshening up and arranged a driver to take us to the sites before dropping us off at the airport for a late evening flight - all at a very reasonable cost. We enjoyed three meals at the Shanti Home - all were delicious. Pooja, the manager, and all members of the staff, particularly Mahipal, were exceptionally friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel to new travelers to India and I hope to return to this wonderful place one day.

Stayed between 11-14 January in room "oh Calcutta". Had a wonderful stay, so relaxing after a day in the city. Staff were so helpful and went out out of their way to assist with sightseeing, onward travel and dining options. Special mention to Adil, the head chef, who accommodated some special dietary requirements and provided amazing options each evening. Room was very clean and well designed, bed very comfortable (not always the case in India)! I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to chill after a busy day sightseeing or shopping. The Metro is close by so travel to the centre of the city is easy and quick. Otherwise, Pooja on reception will happily arrange alternative transport or you.

The management are opening a second hotel in Goa shortly, will definitely be trying it out!

We loved this hotel and cant really praise it enough. We stayed for 3 nights as we wanted to do sightseeing in Delhi and visit the Taj. My partner hated Delhi and this hotel was the only thing that kept him sane during our stay.

The staff were so sweet, such genuinely friendly and helpful people. One example is that when we arrived, I was covered in insect bites and my partner had food poisoning. We asked them if there was a chemist nearby and they told us not to worry and immediately sent someone out on our behalf to get some medication. Also, when we wanted to go to the metro station, they sent a staff member with us to ensure we didn't get lost and we could get a ticket without hassle.

Our room was lovely, immaculately clean and the bathroom was huge and again immaculately clean. It was a little chilly in Delhi at nights but the room was warm and there was a radiator in the room too. The sleep quality was excellent as our room was quiet and the bed was huge and soft. A really nice touch was that on each floor there was a lounge where you could watch sky TV or films, use the internet or sit and relax.

The restaurant (The Lantern) was exquisite and we ate there every night. The staff were so lovely and attentive and really made us feel special and welcome. The food was gorgeous, well presented and the chef would come out to check everything was okay and would cook any special requests. We found on our trip to India that the hygiene standards in certain places was low but we have no doubt that that the restaurant at Shanti Home was of the highest standards. On our last day we had to had to leave at 6.30 so they opened up for breakfast early on our behalf which was really appreciated. And what a breakfast it was!, they even served the most gorgeous thin French crepes, as opposed to those horrid dry huge cake type pancakes often served by hotels at breakfast. That's what made it an 11 out of 10 for me.

Stayed at Shanti Home during New Year eve and you have the feeling to be part of the family. The attitude of the whole staff is so friendly! They will take you to the subway station rather than tell you how to get there. Anything you need, just ask and everything is made to make it happens.
I have been to India more than 30 times, stayed in all the big 5-6 stars hotels, Shanti Home does not have the big lobby or the uniformed staff, but they have the smile, the kindness and the desire to help that is worth more than 6 stars! The food in the terrace restaurant is exceptional: one of the best dinner I ever had.
Thank you Folks, well done. I'll come back!

An intimate hotel with great rooms, lounges, yoga ang gym rooms. Awesome rooftop food, 24 hours s day. Staff will do anything for you. They walked us to the station to show us how things all work. Suggest tours, flights, so willing to share their city. A real home.

This was the first stop on our holiday in India and it was a lovely, welcoming place to stay. Immediately, we were made to feel at home and all members of staff were extremely attentive in a very genuine way, especially Adil, the chef, who prepared some of the most delicious food we enjoyed on our journey. Sure, the hotel is quite a way out of the centre of Delhi, but the hospitality feels so warm, we were glad we stayed there and count it as a great memory...in one of many great memories of our trip.

Shanti Home was recommended by Banyan Tours and, as usual with their recommendations, proved to be a wonderful experience and provides a quiet oasis in the city. The staff are welcoming (no matter the hour of day or night) efficient and provide excellent service. The food in the roof top restaurant is well prepared and flavourful, and the service is friendly and efficient. It is a lovely setting. I was able to leave my extra luggage at the hotel for 5 days while I was travelling, which was a big advantage for me. The rooms are lovely, each decorated according to a different state in India, with thoroughly modern bathrooms and access to wifi! The owners are on site, interesting to talk to and welcome their guests in a friendly and personable way. I love their tip jar so that tips are shared among employees and guests donate what they wish - very democratic! There is nothing that I can say was missing in this lovely hotel. I was only sorry I did not have time to take advantage of the Ayurvedic massage. I am returning to Delhi in January and I am booked into the Shanti Hotel and again in March, I have no trouble rating this hotel highly!
