“Home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

Staying at Shanti Home was one of the highlights of our trip. From the moment you arrive you are treated like a very special guest. Anything we wanted to do, they were able to arrange it. Pooja was especially helpful.

It's located in a suburban area, which we liked a lot since we could leisurely walk around the neighborhood in the early morning. The roof top terrace restaurant is very nice and scenic. Service and food was great. The hotel has a few common areas for guests such as a free computer with internet, a living room to watch tv, etc. Our room, Bombay Masala, was comfortable and spacious. Shanti Home does not have a mass produced chain hotel feel, and that's because it's not. It's very unique and charming with one of a kind style.

I think the best part of staying at Shanti Home was the feeling that we were taken care of. They were more than happy to bring us tea in our room at 4am, arrange for a driver when we wanted to go shopping the evening we arrived, exchange our USD currency for rupees at the front desk, etc. All of the staff were exceptionally welcoming. Our two tour drivers Bolram and Sidju that Shanti Home arranged for us were great too.

We would definitely stay at Shanti Home again the next time we're in Delhi.

We stayed for two nights at the Shanti Home hotel on our short one-week tour of India. We booked out tour with a local Indian company (review elsewhere).

Sometimes these reviews are difficult as in some cases a hotel in excellent but in a terrible location whilst often the reverse is true. I know which way round I prefer things!

The Shanti Home is some way to the west of the City which means that if you are intending to pack a lot into a short time then be prepared to start early in the morning or spend a lot of time in the car. Having arrived at the hotel at 3:00 am we chose the latter.

The Hotel itself is a bit of an Island in an otherwise unremarkable location. We stayed in a twin room which was perfectly pleasant. Everything worked; there was hot water and free internet in the (very clean) room.

We had two breakfasts and one evening meal in the hotel. Breakfasts were a mix of buffet and table service with a good choice of cooked food on offer. For evening meal we had some Tandoori chicken which was exceptionally good and very reasonably priced.

One of the best features of the Shanti Home is the friendliness of the staff, who were all very good. Helpful and genuine without being intrusive. Also the shared tipping means that there are no worries about one or the other being favored. A very good idea.

Overall a more than decent smallish hotel in a less than ideal location. We probably wouldn’t stay again but also would not have a problem recommending.

We arrived in Delhi after 2 AM and our flight was late. Driver sent from Shanti home was there waiting for us. On our arrival we were warmly greeted with a phool mala (in Hawaii called a lei) and fresh fruit drinks, despite being the middle of the night. The warmth and caring shown on our arrival continued throughout our visit. Shanti home is also decorated in a lovely, warm way. Rooms were clean. Water was hot with good pressure in shower. Breakfast and lunch were excellent. I will have to day that the breakfast was the best I had in our 3 weeks in India. We had massages while there, which were followed up with a steam room, shower, and tea, all for $20 USD. On our check out I found out that we could have left the cold weather clothes we ended up hauling through India with Shanti Home and retrieved at the end of our visit. If I return to Delhi I would stay at Shanti Home again and would leave our winter clothing with them. Bottom line - lovely spaces and very warm, caring staff!

We were collected from the airport, provided with a nice room, and the roof top restaurant service was good. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. The hotel was clean, WiFi provided free, and it was quiet despite being next to a main road.

I stayed at Shanti Home for four nights in October 2012. The staff are all very kind and friendly. The roof top restaurant offers a wonderful breakfast and lovely dinners.
My room was well equipped, and very clean. The common areas of the hotel are beautifully furnished.
Individual tipping is discouraged, there is a box in the lobby where you can leave a gratuity to be shared by the staff when you are leaving.
A calm, peaceful and restful spot the chaos of New Delhi.

I almost don't want to tell anyone about this amazing place for fear that we will not get in next time, as when people discover this hotel it will be fully booked! This was our first trip to India, which anyone who has traveled to India know it can be quite an overwhelming experience, but thanks to Shanti homes we had a haven of peace and tranquility to retreat to. This little boutique hotels offers more than you will find in any other hotel! The food was unbelievable! authentic Indian food! better then we ate anywhere else in India, with a wonderful chef that really puts love into what he cooks!, the rooms were perfect, comfortable beds with white linen, hot showers, peaceful, as the hotel is away from all the buzzing street noises, beautiful balconies overlooking a lovely residential area of India. The staff were fantastic, attentive to ones every need! we were wanting to go to Taj Mahal and Jaipur while in India and they organized our trip and great places to stay while we were there, and after the 3 day excursions it was like coming home! We spent the night of Diwali in Shanti homes which was an really special experience that I will never forget, we dined on their wonderful rooftop restaurant overlooking all the fireworks and festivities, eating food that was fit for the Gods. The welcome to the hotel is fantastic, with Garlands of flowers and fresh juice, the smells are amazing and the decor stylish. The breakfast is wonderful, with fresh fruit and freshly cooked food of ones liking, my favourite was the Indian breakfast of the day followed by the mouthwatering banana crepes with nutella! The hotel is owner run, and from beginning to end our stay was unforgettable. The spa looked amazing but I was so busy exploring India that I never got to try, will go for treatments on our next stay. This review is coming from quite a fussy traveler who will only stay in boutique hotels and I usually always find a fault here and there in the places I stay, but Shanti homes was perfect and without fault!!Thank you so much to the wonderful owners and all the staff for an amazing introduction to India, I cant wait to return and am missing Shanti already!

Shanti Home is a great choice for a quiet, restful stay in Delhi. We booked in for a few “get-over-jet-lag-days” at the start of our trip and found that it lived up to the glowing reports we had heard from friends and read on line.

The staff were very helpful and responsive in booking our rooms and arranging transportation from the airport. Although we arrived on a US flight in the very middle of the night, we were amazed to find staff waiting to welcome us with marigolds, and that sense of welcome continued through our stay. The staff also arranged for a car and local driver to sightsee in Delhi.

The rooftop “Lantern” restaurant was a highlight of our visit – open air setting with charming decor, simple but good breakfasts, and truly excellent dinner fare. If you have time and enjoy food, sign up for an Indian cooking demonstration with Chef Adil and his staff. It is a great way to spend a late afternoon and watch your evening dinner being prepared!

If you need to be situated in downtown Delhi you will no doubt choose another hotel, but if ambiance, comfort, excellent food, and a sense of welcome are important to you, Shanti Home is your place!

Room Tip: We chose premium rooms .. mine was Jaipur, I believe .. but my sense is that every room would be cle...
