“'Very good' specialty museum in India, but 'average' when compared to world standards”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

This museum has around 100 life size exhibits, an indoor gallery, an auditorium, a toy train for children to take a ride in and a souvenir shop. It took me over 2 hours to cover it. if with children then you might want to skip the uninteresting parts. Better go early in the morning or in the evening. The afternoon sun takes a toll on your enthusiasm to read the write ups.

Personal train saloons belonging to the kings, dynamometer bogies, patiala monorail, viceregal dining car, steam locomotives, number plates, landmarks, 100 year old electrical fittings etc. There is lot's to see. The souvenir shop is nice. You get train replicas, paper weights, calenders. They make for unusual gift items.

Definitely worth a visit when in Delhi!

“Wonderful experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

There should be over 50 different engines & coaches in the open display area of the complex. Treat for kids to see & have fun on the toy train ride. The museum too has some excellent exhibits of the early days & provides great knowledge on rail history. Don't miss the souvenir shop.

“What a history to wind to?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

The kids had a whale of a time taking in all the variety of trains, engines, compartments, gauges and instruments on display. Typical Indian style all of them parked and bunched up together with little explanations - but that is where the fun is - we were on our own exploring and discovering.

“A must for young children”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

Though it is meant for children, even us adults can learn a lot about our heritage. To see and experience the different types of trains there, including a ride on the famous Patiala single track train is something not to be missed. The museum inside is a veritable treasure vault of memories showing the progress of the rain system in our beautiful country. Great for picnics.

“go down the memory lane”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

During our recent visit to Delhi we went to see this museum. It was a very good experience. Though not very big , you can spend couple of hours watching the entire histroy of development of Indian railways which is very informative and knowledgable. You enter directly in the maharajas period . There are also many old engines and bogies kept on display in the open air which are very interesting too. The earlier maharajas of baroda and mysore bogies specially tailor made are interesting. . Men and boys normally enjoy more in such exhibitions , women and girls do not show much interest.
