“A good place to be”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

I personally do not need all the marble and gold but considering where you are, I believe it is a tough task to look for a boutique kind of hotel anyway. The Shangri La is clean and staff is very friendly (sometimes even too much friendly; stop preaching the entire list of bread and pastries you have in your basket every morning, dear 'bread and juice boy' Lucky). The hotel offers spacious rooms, good pillows and mattresses, and all other things one wishes to have. The Spa area is pretty impressive and the in-house restaurant is also very good. Will be back next time I am in Delhi.

One negative though... the ventilation in the breakfast room does not seem to work too well.

It was an unique experience to stay in a good hotel in your own city. being a member of club 9 we had a chance to stay on 26th Jan 2013 in this hotel. Good facilities in the health club where the staff was very courteous, lavish dinner with chocolate cake and a fulfilled breakfast made our stay memorable. We were so much satisfied that we never thought of going out of the hotel.

I stayed at the Shangri La on a business trip with my colleagues and some of our international guests and we were all glad we did. The rooms were comfortable with a beautiful view (ours had a view of the India gate, president's house, etc). The lobby was always beautifully decorated with fresh flowers, etc, and very welcoming. The staff were very warm and helpful; they would literally give their all to ensure you get whatever you need when you need it and how you need it (apart from one or two who were well not as pleasant but I guess that's the flaw of human nature). The hotel temperature was also quite lovely - we could easily forget it was 45 degrees outside! No troubles with wifi in every room; very convenient and efficient too.

The breakfast buffet at Cafe Uno was AWESOME with staff that treat you like royalty! (the lunch and dinner buffet were not as lavish as breakfast but still not bad; there was also the menu option either ways). The Thai/Chinese/Japanese restaurant was also great as was the conference room we used subsequently - comfortable and suitable.

Overall I would say our stay at the hotel was truly 5 star!

My husband and I had 10 nights at Shangri-La Eros early May. What a lovely, warm experience it was! The hotel staff went out of their way to ensure our stay was pleasant. The Concierge bent over backwards to help us with every query we had, which I might say was several times a day, nothing was too difficult. Relaxing by the pristine pool each afternoon after a busy day by heaven. Breakfast each morning was fresh and plentiful, once again the staff were welcoming and helpful.
One day I hope to return to Delhi and will return to the Shangri-La Hotel to revisit all those many placed I did on this trip.

The hotel is very close to the centre. From my room on the 19th floor I could look out over India Gate.
The hotel was build about 30 years ago on a prime corner plot. It was taken over by Shangri La in 2005 and given a complete refurbishment to top quality standards, with marble tiled lifts and a grand entrance and reception, with a cool marble interior.

My room which was on the Horizon Club floor was fairly small, but tastefully decorated. There was a fitted carpet on the floor, but no musty smells.

My windowsill was wide and was occupied by a large scavenging bird (about 2 feet long with yellow legs). Clearly a good viewpoint not just for me but a preferred location for my bird companion.

The bathroom was small but well laid out and it had all the amenities expected and more (two boxes of bath salts). A comfortable bathrobe and slippers were provided.

The bed was not too hard, the linen was fresh, and I had a good nights sleep, waking up fresh in the morning with the aircon on at 23C.

Seasonal fruits were provided, you just need to phone for them.

The large gym is first rate, one of the best equipped I have visited- with all the free weights and modern machines you could ask for. And they are looked after well. Earphones are available if you want to watch TV while on the running machine. There is also a sauna.

A good breakfast is provided with western and Indian options. You can get vegetable juices made for you.

Service quality is very good. Staff welcome you with a cool drink. Staff are well trained and attentive.

The Horizon Club lounge is particularly welcoming and has a good selection of snacks in the evening. It has a very large collection of Law books for those interested in using their time to study of Indian law!

At this time of the year the room cost about £107 per night (including taxes) including breakfast. They offered me an upgrade to Executive floor, which, for the extra facilities and for a transfer to the airport, was worthwhile.

The Horizon Club room cost me about £154 a night. Given the location, quality service and excellent facilities, this represents good value for money.

From the moment we were picked up at the airport by the hotel limo, everything promised to be excellent. With cold towels and chilled bottled water ready, our limo driver stated that their job was to delight us. And delighted us they did.

The facility is typical of a well managed Shangri La hotel. The rooms are clean and well maintained, the beds and pillows plush and comfortable. The restaurants offered a good selection of quality Continental and Asian fare.

While the high level of security was a little surprising initially - every vehicle inspected before entry, every piece of luggage / purse scanned and every guest passed through a metal detector, we quickly realized that it offered us unprecedented peace of mind. In light of the 2008 bombing of the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai, we were happy to put up with the minor inconveniences

But the stars of the facility are the well trained, highly motivated staff. From elevator operators to restaurant hostesses to front desk to concierge to housekeeping to security, everyone was outstanding in their ability to "delight" us. It was as if they were actively looking for opportunities to surprise and delight us.

As we adjusted to India and her food, both my wife and I fell ill at different times during our stay in Delhi. Falling ill in a strange and foreign land can often be a harrowing experience, but as guests of the Shangri La's Eros Hotel, we felt totally safe and cared for. We are still amazed at how quickly the news of our illness had spread through the hotel staff and how effectively they had used that information to care for us.

Housekeeping showed up first with extra bottled water and toilet paper - and then flowers and a "Get Well Soon" card! Then, when we were well enough to eat at the restaurants, staff and managers whom we have never met before, would ask about our health and offer fresh lime and coconut juices to help replenish our electrolytes. Chefs offered to concoct special meals to ease our system slowly back to health. Even the General Manager stopped by with his personal stash of psyllium husks to help speed our recovery. One after another, the staff sustained their efforts to delight us for the 8 days we were guests at the hotel.

But the service did not even stop after we checked out of the hotel!! Because of our illness, we had to reschedule flights into and out of Nepal, our next stop, and flights home to Canada. These changes complicated the passage of our luggage from Nepal to home and expired entry visas complicated our access to boarding passes for our flight home. The Concierge Desk was not only astute in predicting our predicament, they were downright amazing in their ability to relief us of our concerns.

An Airport Manager from the hotel was assigned to us, not only to smooth our passage out of India and into Nepal, but DAYS LATER, from Nepal back into transit in Delhi en route to Canada. DAYS LATER!! It was extremely reassuring to know that the hotel was still taking care of us days after we had checked out of their facility.

Our stay at the Shangri La's Eros Hotel was exceptional enough that this pair of avid travelers have made the effort to join TripAdvisor just so we can rave about our experience. In fact, they have set the standard by which we will now judge all other hotels.
