“Great lunch buffet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2011

Such a pleasant lunch in the middle of chaos! If you're in delhi and want to get away from al the disturbing chaos, go for the lunch buffet at the shangri-la hotel. The fod is delicious and you will rest your mind (for a while).

We arrived late one evening and the Check-in process was effortless, it was the same for our Check-out. The hotel is beautiful and grand.

The Room
Lovely, light and clean just what you need after a long day sight seeing.

The Food
Breakfast was served in the Café Uno and there was plenty of choice, even Chefs waiting to cook your favourite omelette .

Other amenities
The swimming pool area is nicely maintained, beware the spa (bubble) pool is cool/cold.

Hidden Secret: Walk through the Spa/Fitness centre to the swimming pool through an underground corridor and you will some good modern paintings displayed on the walls.

The hotel is not far from the tourist attractions, so this saves you a lot of travel time.

Stayed here for three nights on a family trip occupying two rooms on the 15th floor, which I understand are the "newer" rooms as compared to those on floors nine and below.

This is a 5-star property and room standard is decent, clean, beds comfortable and overall appearance is not worn. Shower was working properly, water pressure is excellent and there was constant warm water as should be expected from this category.LCD screen size was a joke and screen mounted to the right of the window.

Breakfast was ok, food is fresh. There is an Indian selection, Continental as well as Chinese and a big selection of Japanese mizo soup. Bakery offers little choice with dry toast and dry baguette - no rolls, no rye/whie bread selection. Continental meats also lack choice - pastrami, smoked chicken had to suffice (ever heard of ham?). Waitors too eager and besieging the guest, as is usual in Indian luxury hotels.Quiet breakfast? Not here!

Location of hotel is great, walking distance to Janpath and only a short 30 Rs rickshaw ride to Connaught Place's Inner Circle and Rajiv Chowk.

So far so good, here come the BUTs:
1. This place is far too expensive for what it is. I was using a company rate for 10000 Rs per night excl. tax. For that sort of price, you can stay at the Taj Palace (I have done so, the week before I stayed at the Shangri-La) and get better service, ambience and value for your money.

2. Reception, security and concierge staff genuinly lack motivuation and friendliness! When we arrived, we were NOT greeted with a smile and had to cart our luggage into the X-ray machine ourselves. Staff at check-in and check-out were really just doing their job. Nothing along the lines of "how did you enjoy your stay", "any plans for your stay in Delhi we can help with".

3. Extra charges galore. Be prepared to pay extra for everything. Although internet access in the business center (and WiFi) is free, black and white printing is charged at 75 Rs per page, colour printing at 175 Rs per page!!! Now that's what I call margin. Also, I can't recall the last time I paid 5 USD (excl. service charge and VAT) for a cup of masala tea in a café.

4. Spa: its nice but again, its too expensive. Swedish massage for 1 hr will set you back 3900 Rs excl. tax and what you get is really just an average treatment quality. If you are looking for a nice massage, head to Kerala Ayurveda in Delhi for around 1/4 this price.

If you are planning to have a (very expensive) beer in the lobby cafe, bring a jacket as the air conditioner on the entire lobby level will give you the chills!

Bottom-line: if you are looking for a luxury hotel in Delhi, don't waste your time with the Shangri-La. This property does not do justice to Shangri-La's international reputation. Go for one of the Taj Hotels instead.

Initial impressions of the lobby a little worn. First room given was 511 which was dreadful, very old, very small and extremely dated. Moved to a room on the 12th floor which was like staying at a completely different hotel. Room was large, clean and very comfortable. Free tea and coffee, water and a good selection of TV channels. Nice bath with show over. Room service, breakfast was excellent, quick and great value. Although on the 12th floor, this room was over the nightclub and the music was extremely loud until around 1am. The gardens are pleasant and the pool and Jacuzzi, neither heated were good but a little rough around the edges but a lot of cleaning work was being done at the time. 'Officially' there is no smoking outside.
After the room change the stay was great but for the price paid, $400 a night, steep, staying in room 511 would have been a disaster. Check room first. Oh and there is also a hefty luxury tax add on.

Very nice hotel in good location with opulent lobby area. The service is second to none with friendly and knowledgeable staff who went out of their way to help. Rooms not so big, but very well appointed and modern with very nice bathroom, Very good restaurants in the hotel, especially the asian cuisine restaurant with choice of Chinese, Japanese and Thai. Not the cheapest hotel, but well worth it if you can afford it

During my last visit to Delhi during August/ Sept , I thought to try this new Hotel Shangrila Eros and my complete stay was very comfortable and I enjoyed the services extended to me during my stay. The best part of this Hotel I like was Free Internet Service in each room ...that was really a add on service for business travelers like me... Food was okay ...they have two restaurants .. serving Indian ..chinese...Thai...Japanese cuisine...I was comfortable with the food quality & services...rooms were okay & nicely decorated. Cannaught palace is just at a walking distance ...so also good for shoppers..to move around during evening ...Disco & bar was also good..though it was small compare to others...Food & taxi services there were little expensive...compare to other 5 stars nearby.. but overall the stay was enjoyabale...
