If you're a prototypical male shopper who behaves like a hunter, this is the place for you. When souvenirs or gifts from India are your quarry, this is your happy hunting ground.
A wide selection of typical hand-made items from every Indian region is on display. Prices are just a bit higher than what you might be able to negotiate from vendors on the street, but they are still reasonable. Any extra that you might pay is more than compensated by the time you save with one-stop shopping, the implied guarantee that everything is well crafted, and the calming effect of not having to negotiate and wonder if you're getting ripped off.
Even if you're female and prefer browsing to hunting, this is a great place. There's no better selection of hand-made items anywhere in India, so you're sure to encounter many unexpected treasures to attract and hold your attention.
The purchasing system can be a bit cumbersome. Order at one counter, pay at a second counter and pick up your purchase at a third, so allow a bit of extra time. Also, although there are now branches, the original, central location on Janpath is the best.
