The Dunkin India launch was all over the papers and hence I trooped down to the branch in GK, M-Block market with some of the same eagerness that had made me queue up in a 100 meter long line outside the first McDonalds outlet in India in Mumbai. Thankfully, the familiar pink and orange sign announcing the Dunkin Donuts outlet didn’t have a queue of sugar-starved people below it and we managed to find a couple of chairs on the 1st floor of this outlet spanning 3 floors.
The restaurant is done up in bright colors but there are a few teething issues like tissues not being refilled etc, someone sweeping the dust through the entire length of the restaurant even when there were people sitting at their tables. The restaurant needs to raise their maintenance levels a couple of notches.
Now for the food!!
We ordered a Chicken Paprika Salami Croissant (Rs. 90) which was very good. The meatball marinara in ciabatta bread(Rs. 110) wasn’t as good as the one at Subway. The 'everything' bagel with jalapeno(Rs. 50) was perfect. We did order a pack of assorted munchkins (10 for Rs. 79) and though these were good, the packaging is a problem since they dump all the munchkins in a brown paper bag causing the gooey chocolate ones to stick to the rest.
On the beverages front, we did the mango smoothie and Cookie cold coffee which were decent but nothing to write home about.
And how could we leave Dunkin without its donuts?? So we did get a classic glazed donut(Rs.45) and Irish Mocha(Rs. 45) to go which had the same 'all in a brown bag' packaging problem. Dunkin though seems to have proper boxes for pack of 6 or more donuts.
The donuts (though eggless) were good and a nice way to round off a quick dinner. They do seem to open up early in the morning at 7 AM and would be a good option for breakfast if you work/live in the vicinity. Considering that the franchisee is the same company which runs Dominos Pizza, I hope they start doing home delivery too.
Overall, I would want to do Dunkin again for the following
Perfect fix of sugar with the munchkins & donuts
Its all in the 'package'
