“Excellent choice on arriving in Delhi or passing through”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2014 via mobile

We've stopped over in Delhi on many occasions over the past 15 years or so and usually stay in the Parahganj area because of its convenient location close to the station. We've had reasonable rooms and truly awful ones and so coming across Hotel Ajanta as we passed through Delhi twice on our most recent visit to India was a welcome discovery. It will be our first choice in future. Its location on the (relatively) quieter Arakashan Road is one factor in its favour; the second is the friendliness, cheerfulness and efficiency of the staff. We had no complaints at all about the delux room we opted for - it was clean, spacious and well-equipped and at 2400rps including airport pickup and breakfast we certainly paid more in India for rooms that were nowhere near as good. I can't speak for the cheaper rooms.
Having stayed there earlier on our trip and left a bag with them, they gave us the use of a room for a quick shower and a change of clothes as we passed through on the way to the airport without charge or fuss. I can't imagine many hotels in the area doing that.
As others have noted in reviews here, there is an attempt to steer you towards their travel agent who sits in an office just behind reception - by asking if you want a map of Delhi for example - but it's not a hard sell and forewarned is forearmed.
Our only real plea for the management is to do something about improving their communication. Emails to them get an instant automatic reply from 'Shefali at the Reservation Desk' inviting you to watch promotional videos and promising to get back to you. She never did. Telephone calls informing them of a change of plan etc hadn't seemed to have filtered through to their reservation desk when we eventually arrived. None of these would prevent us from using Ajanta again the next time we are in Delhi however.

We arrived New- Delhi at Night and went Hotel Ajanta. At the time of CHECK-IN they shifted us to another hotel. We already booked a Deluxe room in Ajanta Hotel, but while CHECK-IN they told us all room occupied and no rooms available. Also they promised to arrange a room for next day. Breakfast they offer for next day. Hence we shifted to another Hotel and never get back there.

Room Tip: Never go the Hotel Ajanta.

The hotel is located very close to New Delhi railway station and is an ideal staging point for catching the early Shatabi express train to Agra.
The area where the hotel is located is not particularly nice as is often the case close to Indian main railway stations , but the hotel itself was clean and comfortable. The rate was very competitive and included a free collection from the airport which also went very smoothly. The hotel rooms which we had were both very spacious, had good air conditioning and a reasonable shower.
The hotel does not serve alcohol in the restaurant but if you speak to the staff they should be able to help with alternatives.
Overall a decent budget option although the area may worry some.

Thank you for your feedback, yes, we are very happy centrally located. If you are happy to get a car and driver from the hotel who knows the roads, and makes you feel safe, you will realize that there may be a very small margin of a difference. Yes we have fridges, LCD’s, and lockers in all rooms.

Professional staff, excellent internet service, excellent touring advicegood breakfast room.
No lampstead by the bed (you had to get out of bed in order to switch off or on the light). Good service. Warm water took five minutes.

I went to Delhi on an overnight flight from Toronto via London - 24 hours + of traveling - expecting from a number of the reviews on here for the airport pickup portion to be a disaster. It wasn't - he was there two hours early, helped me when I stupidly forgot my backpack by the Thomas Cook in the arrivals terminal (note: Delhi International Airport is an inefficient piece of crap), and we left an hour later.

The hotel itself was a lot of bang for your buck - I didn't get hot water for the first two days because of...you know what it doesn't matter to be honest, it was HOT in Delhi. The third I got it, and I joked to the VERY helpful concierge that they turned it on for my last morning to get a good review on tripadvisor.

But don't get me wrong, these guys are good and the rooms are quite nice (see Lonely Planet India 2014). The travel agency takes a commission on train tickets but they're honest about it and they got me out of a bind getting tickets to get to Amritsar when everything was full. They organized very affordable autorickshaw (they have a guy who works for them who owns one) rides around the city for very affordable rates. The hotel is central, so central I was able to walk to the New Delhi metro station in 5 minutes, although the traffic around the hotel never stops because it's Delhi.

For the record, it's not the Sheraton - it's a budget hotel; you pay for what you get. But the money's good. I recommend this place for people who've had a bad travel hangover or are using it as a first step into Delhi. These guys ease the way in and don't take any shortcuts.

Room Tip: Book online first. Most rooms don't have windows. Live with it. No one wants a window into a De...

The hotel has a major noise problem during the day until late in the evening. This is in part due to noise travelling through the structure of the old building from staff and other guests (doors, showers, talking) but also because of the extremely noisy kitchen staff when working and cleaning up the kitchen located on the ground floor (music, chanting, pots and pans falling on kitchen floor, moving around furniture etc). After complaining, the manager promised to look into it but it did not make much difference during the second night. The place becomes much quieter after 23.30 but all in all not what you would expect from a three star hotel.
Coacroches in the WC, room was small and wifi was slow. I would not stay there again.

stayed in this Hotel twice during my recent trip to India. Airport pick up as agreed. staff were helpful and very pleasant. I booked superior room and it was spacious and bright. Nice coffee shop accross the road which was great place to relax in the evening. Central location - easy access to city centre and train station.
appreciated the prompt replies to my ems for information and confirmation of bookings. As solo traveller I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: can only comment on the rooms I stayed in and they were 218..over the street but got quiet at night...
