“In the heart of it all”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

We were at the Hotel at a time of mass protest. This property is not far from India Gate and the protests were right there. This is a smaller property that says "British" all over it. However, it could use an upgrade. The rooms are outdated and the walls are not in the condition one would hope for. However, the location and the price are wll worth the stay. The Restaurant is too small when the Hotel is full.

“Memorable Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

The Claridges is a lovely hotel - not too "stuck up", just the right level of service. We stayed 2 non consecutives nights and were upgraded on both occasions - the second time to the penthouse suite which was pure bliss although we unfortunately didn't have much time to enjoy it. Check in on both occasions was swift and hassle free. The Sevilla restaurant is well worth a visit - quaint little outdoor/indoor restaurant. The vodka cocktails at the bar are also delicious.

Our sincere thanks to the hotel management for the upgrades - much appreciated.

“Excellent Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

My family and I stayed at Claridges as the first leg of a tour of North India ......
4 adults and 4 children was quite challenging but I have to say I was nothing but impressed with the efficient manner of check in and the general service levels .We were here for 2 nights during which Suhani @ the travel desk made sure that any concern we had with logistics or questions regarding shopping, itinerary were handled with aplomb. In fact we checked out early the 3rd morning to get a very early train from New Delhi to Amritsar and she very kindly supplied complementary breakfast bags for the whole family which was a very kind thought and gesture as we had a 6 hr journey ahead of us .We even left the bulk of the luggage with them and picked up after out overnight sojourn in Amritsar. All in all I would have no hesitation in recommeding this hotel ....Its not the oberoi but we found it very competitive and full of an old world charm.....Would definately stay here again..............Only 2 mild downsides ...Dhaba restaurants was too expensive for what it was and wifi should have been complimentary......All in all a great choice ................

“Very good service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

We where twice in this hotel within two weeks. The staff was very friendly, the rooms clean and big. Breakfast was very good and the restaurants where really good. My only complain: wifi was not complementary. You can expect this from a hotel in this price class.

Favorite employee: Mustafa at the Dahba. He made us feel at home. Thank you!

“Safe and nice, but hard to get sleep”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

This is a nice hotel, situated in a safe VIP area of New Delhi. We stayed there when the massive street protest broke out following the brutal gang rape, and there was police with road blocks in the whole area (making it tough to reach the hotel by vehicle).
The reception is nice, as is the small sitting are in front of Ye Old Bakery (which for Christmas had been decorated with real gingerbrad on ALL walls: amazing!).
Breakfast is very good; though it can get quite busy. Getting decaf was not an issue here.
The rooms are well-appointed, quite colonial. Ours smelled like a wine cellar (which I actually like); the second one smelled OK. There was a little fresh welcome cake (yummy) and some very special tea (fresh: very nice).
THe issue is the total lack of sound insulation, between the different rooms, and also between the rooms and the corridor. The latter is long straght and marble, without sound absorbing material. Combin that will ultra-thin and not-well-fitting doors and you understand that you hear every sfaff member and guest, especially if they have a roller suitcase, or talk. Worst are the door bells: these are so loud. I got up three times during the night because a door bell was rung a few rooms away and it sounded like it was ours. Needless to say that we did not sleep well in such nice surroundings.

Room Tip: The issue is finding a quiet one to rest: not sure if they have those!
