“Very good service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

We where twice in this hotel within two weeks. The staff was very friendly, the rooms clean and big. Breakfast was very good and the restaurants where really good. My only complain: wifi was not complementary. You can expect this from a hotel in this price class.

Favorite employee: Mustafa at the Dahba. He made us feel at home. Thank you!

This is a nice hotel, situated in a safe VIP area of New Delhi. We stayed there when the massive street protest broke out following the brutal gang rape, and there was police with road blocks in the whole area (making it tough to reach the hotel by vehicle).
The reception is nice, as is the small sitting are in front of Ye Old Bakery (which for Christmas had been decorated with real gingerbrad on ALL walls: amazing!).
Breakfast is very good; though it can get quite busy. Getting decaf was not an issue here.
The rooms are well-appointed, quite colonial. Ours smelled like a wine cellar (which I actually like); the second one smelled OK. There was a little fresh welcome cake (yummy) and some very special tea (fresh: very nice).
THe issue is the total lack of sound insulation, between the different rooms, and also between the rooms and the corridor. The latter is long straght and marble, without sound absorbing material. Combin that will ultra-thin and not-well-fitting doors and you understand that you hear every sfaff member and guest, especially if they have a roller suitcase, or talk. Worst are the door bells: these are so loud. I got up three times during the night because a door bell was rung a few rooms away and it sounded like it was ours. Needless to say that we did not sleep well in such nice surroundings.

Room Tip: The issue is finding a quiet one to rest: not sure if they have those!

The hotel is located in one of the top-adresses in New Delhi. If you stay here you can breathe the charm of forgotten times in India, when style was rather an attitude and not measured by the size of ones bank account. Excellent Dhaba and chinese restaurant.

In the true spirit of high hospitality there is always somebody listening to you and your desires at The Claridges New Delhi. Discreetly they remember your name and preferences which all become the base of your stay, you feel personally attached and welcomed by a staff so efficient you forget they even existed.
The location whether for business like me or pleasure is unbeatable, so central literally everything is nearby for New Delhi standards, a perfect place to improvise meetings as everybody turns out to be 'around the corner'
It is a place I would definitely also recommend for families, there is a feeling of home away from home.
I did not use the spa unfortunately, but have heard good things about it.

Room Tip: I loved the rooms in front with a view on the lawn, very soothing

If this is your first stop in India, this hotel is a good place to stay whilst you adjust. With plenty of eating options in-house, you can relax when you first arrive.

It's important to realise that this place has nothing to do with Claridges in London, as I first assumed. The common areas of the hotel were often very busy with corporate functions and this is to the detriment of residents due to the crowding that this creates and the resultant closure of parts of the hotel where the function is taking place. Whilst we were there on two different nights at either end of our tour of India. There was a function by the pool one night where we were politely asked to leave the poolside late afternoon for tables to be set up. There was then another function the next visit, this time by a major car luxury car manufacturer, launching their new model. This was held in the garden and so the space was closed most of the afternoon onwards whilst the stage and lighting were rigged up. It wasn't a problem really as were only in town one night each time and it was interesting people-watching both times as the guests arrived. As a resident guest though, I did feel quite undervalued as no mention of these events was ever made when we booked or even when we checked-in and getting a drink in the bar was an frustrating experience to say the least.

Food ranged from disappointingly expensive and unauthentic (Sevilla), to excellent with great service (Dhaba).

In summary, a good hotel for a short stopover. We'd probably return but there's a lot of competition in this class and price range in Delhi, so we might look elsewhere instead.

The hotel was very comfortable, and I was upgraded to a lovely room with a separate sitting area.
Very peaceful oasis in such a busy city, with pretty good restaurants and accurate and prompt room service. The staff was very attentive and helpful. Pleasant garden for a late afternoon pre-dinner drink, away from all the activity of the city. Unfortunately the spa was closed for renovations while we were there, otherwise a massage would have been welcome after the long flight to India. The gym was also improvised in a few spare bedrooms while the spa area was being remodeled, so those facilities were limited.

We only used the hotel for 1 night at the start of our India holiday. Very nice hotel, good staff, rooms and breakfast. We had a driver so it was easy to travel to the sites from here. Recommended if staying in Delhi.
