“Best service ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

I can only echo many of the fantastic reviews already on this site. Customer service was exceptional, nothing was too much trouble. Added to that little niceties that you wouldn't expect like multiple bottle of water in the room free every day. Very comfortable rooms, leisure facilities, pool. Excellent buffet breakfast and restaurants. Not the most cost effective place to stay but a case of you get what you pay for!

“Great Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

Had 2 stays here in January 2013 - 12 nights in total.

Rooms are large and immaculately clean - although mine felt just a little tired/dated - particularly the bathroom.

Great choice of eating/drinking options. Buffet breakfast was good, with large number of options available to order included in the price - i.e. dosas, waffles etc.

Liked the view from my room - I was able to watch the Dress Rehearsals of the Republic Day Parade fly-pasts.

Staff & Service near immaculate.

Hotel well located for airport, Connaught Place Area, Khan Market, Lutyen's Delhi etc.

We had booked into the Taj Vivanta but due to a burst water pipe in our room we were transferred the Taj Mahal which is quite close by. A fantatstic hotel! Luxurious rooms, amazing service, spotlessly clean. A great location for tourists, very central to all sights and walking distance to India Gate and Khan Market - a really good spot for restaurants. Breakfast was superb with waiters looking after our every need in a very professional and unobtrusive manner, Porters and concierge were outstanding and not demanding a tip for every little service like in many Indian hotels. Even better was that we got the room for the Vivanta rate (Rs 10200 per night) - I doubt that this hotel would normally charge that rate for 3 people in one room. The only minor complaint was that the rooms are a little small for 3 adults, but since we spent very little time in the room it really did not matter. This hotel provided better service than any 5 star hotel that I have stayed in anywhere else in the world - including Australia, Europe and Asia.

“Second stay and as ever, the stay really do set this place apart”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

Having travelled from the sister hotel in Mumbai, I moved onto New Delhi. I have stayed here around 18 months ago, and it was good to return to find the staff on the money yet again, very polite, cannot do enough, without ever being intrusive. Many other hotels should take note of this.

Everything through the establishment is very old world, whilst being of high modern standards. The foyer is great for a coffee meeting or just relaxing. The coffee and tea bar, served what is without doubt the best cup of English Breakfast tea I have ever had, anywhere. I ate twice in Wasabi, which again has great food, informative staff, and a fabulous atmosphere. The rooms are well appointed, and bedding etc first class. My only slight downside is the bathrooms are ready for an upgrade, but hey, you don’t staff in the bathroom, whether on business or holiday.

The hotel itself is situated within walking distance (say 20 mins) of Parliament Buildings, India Gate, and Ghandi memorial, etc. Or you can use Tut Tuts, etc, very cheap. I ran both is time and last time in new Delhi, and the area is very safe for tourist.

Finally, I had a problem with an internal flight, and the travel desk went out their way to resolve the issue, even travelling to the airport to meet with the airline concern, and at no charge to me. I cannot praise this level of service highly enough.

“One of Delhi's finest.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

Once the grande dame of Indian hotels the Taj Mahal remains one of Delhis finest , if no longer the best, hotels. Room $480 a night including breakfast and a single airport transfer in a Jaguar.

Pros : 1970's high rise. Great leafy location within 2 minute walk of the Kahn market. Some rooms have a superb view onto the city centre, Viceroys Lodge and India Gate. The sight of great flocks of green parrots nesting at sunset quite remarkable. Staff, as in most high end Indian hotels , warm and generally friendly. Good security. Large open air pool in garden. Excellent sensibly priced lobby shop offering a wide range of quality gifts and souvenirs - a recent and much appreciated Taj innovation. Entrance hall and public areas stylish and calm. Checkout exemplary for speed and accuracy.

Cons : Away from the entrance hall the decor is getting tired - a sign that the hotel is in need of some tlc and investment. Coffee shop gets hectic at breakfast time, furniture chipped, decor in public areas could do with refreshing. Bar like something you'd find in a truckstop on I-85 - quite out of keeping. Service at Varq has recently become slow and inefficient. Mr. Ming the Chinese restaurant the best of the bunch - staff efficient and welcoming - Peking Duck the best in India.

Cons : Some rooms modern and spacious. Others of the 1970's Holiday Inn variety. Club Lounge a pleasant enough place but gets crowded.

Conclusion : Get a good room and you'll be happy. Get a bad one and your impressions will be less favourable. A sensible place to stay although beginning to show its age . More a good four star than a five star. Difficult to beat the location. Rate packages inclusive of breakfast and airport transfer represent compeling value for money.

Room Tip: Try to get a room garden side. Club rooms on high levels quieter, larger and with excellent views. I...
