“High Security Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

We stayed at the Taj Palace on 3 separate occasions.
The security to enter this hotel was very tight.
The accommodation was very nice. Glass walls in the bathroom was a little strange. Staff were very helpful and beautifully dressed. Restaurant food was good, but a little expensive.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms are less modern, but still comfortable.

We stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed it very much We found all the staff to be friendly/helpful with complimentry water/some soft drinks at the pool,
The room was spacious and clean.
We ate at the indian restaurant on our first night, the food being very good, but you should definately try the Orient Express restaurant for first class food and service, which is set up in a mock train carriage, not the cheapest option but excellent none the less!
The cocktail bar serves unique cocktails which are some of the best I've ever experienced, not cheap but don't miss out!

This is a review based on a single night stay there in an Executive Room.

The room was as good as any of those in other Taj properties, but I thought the Mansingh location in Delhi was more enjoyable.

Service was up to par for the Taj Group. Though the Bukhara had no reservations available, the maitre d' found a table for one for me (on New Year's Eve!). And I had an outstanding meal, Peshawari cuisine. Just for that, I'd go back to the Taj palace.

After having overeaten at the Bukhara, I didn't take advantage of the breakfast buffet the next day, though it looked pretty good. The cappuccino was excellent, though.

The hotel is close to the airport, making its location perfect if you have a morning flight to catch.

My wife and I stayed at the Taj Palace for three nights as part of a planned tour of the "Golden Triangle." At first we were concerned that the hotel was outside of New Delhi city center and that guards had to examine all vehicles upon entry. We soon learned that both are good things.

The Taj Palace is located in the west end of the city by the embassies and the ITC hotel. The major benefit to the location is the quiet and peaceful setting much needed after a day of touring raucous New Delhi. The is nowhere of interest within walking distance except the ITC hotel which has at least one excellent restaurant that we tried (Bukhara).

The security is also a major plus. We felt safe at all times within the limits of the property.

The staff is all around tremendous. Everyone we met was genuinely concerned about whether we were enjoying our stay and what they could personally do to make it even better.

The room we he was basic but clean and well furnished.

Lastly, breakfast was awesome. Many choices in the buffet and many more complimentary made-to-order options as well.

The Lobby is beautifully done, with lots of fresh flowers. Our room was "Global" standard. Like a decent 5 star in Singapore/Hong Kong. Staff are good, friendly and helpful. However, I'm not sure why they needed an Aussie Barman! Food was expensive for India, and wine prices were a rip-off. However, all in all a great place to stay in Delhi.
Room was an upgrade - purely by chance.
The marble on the floor outside near the pool area is beginning to show its age. They need to learn how to maintain it. (They could learn from the Cairo Marriott)
I agree with an earlier poster - the shower takes some figuring out. Also, the wi-fi charge was a real pain. Only 4 stars due to wi-fi charge.

There are a couple of hotels worldwide that stick in my mind and this hotel is one of them. Truly amazing from the minute we arrived. Customer service truly impeccable Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were exquisitely furnished with every possible amenity. Huge king beds and very comfortable
A few different restaurants. We dined at the Vietnamese restaurant which was excellent
Beautiful outdoor swimming pool temperature controlled. Nice touch also to receive the India Times each day in its own presentation hessian holder.

Room Tip: All the rooms have a very high standard

we stayed here on more than one occaision during a recent tour around the Golden Triangle. A very luxurious hotel. All staff are very helpful and friendly. Lovely pool area and gardens. Good selection of restaurants. However, it is very expensive for drinks! Be warned. There is a lovely area off the foyer serving speciality teas and coffees. However, for 2 pots of tea we paid the equivalent of £12! That would be excessive even in the UK.
Bar drinks can also be expensive, although there is usually a Happy Hour with 2 4 1 on most drinks. The Indian wines can also be a good buy. We tried the white Sula which was very good. If you just want a basic tea or coffee and mix with the locals, try turning left out of the hotel entrance and cross the road at the bottom of the slope where there is a coffee bar - bit like an Indian version of a Costa, where a lot of the young locals congregate. About £1.20 a cup of coffee and the company of a vibran crowd.
Our meals were included as part of our trip. We ate in the Vietnamese restaurant, the buffet restaurant and the Indian restaurant. All excellent. The buffet breakfast in the morning offered so much choice, you could spend all morning eating. One morning I noticed a joint of lamb amongst the offerings! The weather was so good, it was lovely to sit outside and eat breakfast.
Rooms are a good size, with very comfortable beds and i-pod docking stations. the shower can be a little awkward to work out, so best to ask the porter when he drops off your bags if you are not sure.
Being allergic to feathers, I had to request a bedding change. This was facilitated in record time and in a pleasant manner. In the evening, slippers are placed by the bed and when you turn out all the room lights, as soon as your feet touch the floor a low level light comes on so that you could see your way to the bathroom, without disturbing a partner. Brilliant idea!
Staff were very pleasant and nothing too much trouble. Free bottles of water are offered poolside.
One thing I did not really like was the need to have a member of staff situated in each of the cloakrooms by reception who's job it was to hand you a towel on a platter to wipe your hands with. This did seem to take things a bit too far!
There is a significant level of security at this hotel. However, the staff could certainly teach the security staff at airports in the UK a lesson in good manners! They are almost apologetic at slowing your entry to the hotel and very polite and considerate.
Overall, loved the place and would certainly go back if staying in New Delhi.

Room Tip: request a room overlooking the pool and gardens
