I have stayed at many of the hotels in New Delhi in the last year and the Sheraton was the most recent. I stayed in one of the executive suites for three weeks and had an interesting look into all aspects of the hotel.
Firstly, the location is a mixed blessing. Although located out of the main parts of the city, the hotel backs up against one of the best malls in Delhi. While the Oboroi, Imperial and Shangri-La may be more centrally located, they are not within feasible walking distance of anything substantial. The mall, which is located directly behind the hotel has good shops and restaurants. This is good, because the facilities in the Sheraton are simply average.
The hotel is nice and well maintained, although in need of a renovation. The rooms are clean, but appointed with 90s items and decor. The carpet and curtains are showing their age, although not to the extent of concern.
I stayed on the executive level, so I had access to the executive lounge. Breakfast was a simple cold breakfast- decent, but not on par with other hotels' executive level lounges. The nightly happy hour, as well, served some cheese and other snacks, but pales in comparison to the Shangri-La.
The main restaurant was OK, and despite an extensive menu, never seemed to have anything that truly appealed to me. The breakfast was better and actually had everything that you could want on the buffet. The room service menu was limited and after a few days, I began to go across the street to the mall. The service, though, in both the restaurant and room service was excellent.
i used the hotel gym on many occasions and it was surprisingly well appointed. There is a battery of treadmills, some workout machines and free weights. The machines were modern, well maintained and easy to use.
Overall, the Sheraton is decent hotel with a good location if you are staying long-term and want some variety in the evening. The service is outstanding, but the overall property is on need of an upgrade.
