This hotel is located some 25 KM away from the City center. It was the Hotel Emporio and recently changed hands. It appears to have been remodeled and everything looks quite new. The lobby is glitzy and the restaurant serves a respectable buffet for tourists. The room is nice and the bath room is also nicely appointed. But, there were details that warrents management attention. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that the hotel is still in the shake-down periods from the remodeling.
My bathroom sink leaks big time. Fortunately there was a drain or I would have flooded the room downstairs. The bathtub plumbing is not properly adjusted. I could not switch my shower to the overhead rain shower... the nob was too tight for me to pull it out. The hair dryer cord was too short to allow comfortable usage to dry my hair and lastly, the air condition was out of calibration and I had to turn it off to avoid freeze into a popsicle. Other tan that. The hotel is pleasant , the staff is helpful, the wait staff in the restaurant is attentive and very pleasant. The room rate is reasonable.
The main issue with this hotel is its location. It is some 30 KM from the city center. Knowing the traffic situation in New Delhi, we spent a good amount of time, close to one hour one way, going to and coming back from places.. fighting the notorious Delhi traffic. the drivers in New Delhi are either saints or crazy. The amzing thing is we did not witness any traffic accidents, and not many cars even have dents. Amazing!
Another shortcoming is the lack of much commercial entities in the neighborhood. The hotel is located within it own wall off a very busy street. After you are returned to the hotel after one day's site seeing, you will almost be comfined in the hotel because there is not much outside of the hotel property. There is a nice spa with full services. But do check the spa operation time. If I remember correctly, the closes relatively early (9 pm?). Another words, you have to check in at 8 pm to have an one-hour massage. This will cut short your dinner time as the restaurant starts around 7pm.
One thing I was impressed was the security at this hotel. There were security guards at the front gate. Every car was checked using reflective mirror to see whether there are explosives mounted underneath. I cannot remember whether they X-ray the luggages.
This is a hotel which is trying to do its best. Only time will tell whether they will get there.
