My boyfriend and I booked 1 night at The Pearl as we had an early train journey to Agra the following day and needed a place close to New Delhi station - this was about the only decent aspect of our stay!
Firstly, the staff couldn't have been less enthusiastic when we checked in and frankly looked bored (until we left in the evening when they looked very interested in the football game showing in reception).
Secondly, our room featured a large window with a blind, when we pulled the blind up we noticed we had a great view of the communal hallway (weird). The light from the hallway beamed through the pathetic blind, providing our room with a glow which made sleeping almost impossible - not what we aimed for in light of our 5am wake-up! When we called reception (around 1am) to ask if anything could be done, the attendant said "I will send someone up to see if the light can be turned off" - They weren't, so we slept with nine spotlights beaming in our faces.
Also, my boyfriend is 5 ft 8" and his feet were hanging off the end of the bed. So don't visit if you're over 5 ft 5".
There was also some loud, bass-driven 90s hip-hop pounding through the floor which continued to torment us until we managed to fall asleep at around 3am. This, partnered with the hallway window light was unbearable.
Thirdly, the shower was 4 horizontal sprays of lukewarm water (none of which were above the neck). Not ideal.
Fourthly, the restaurant was manned by one disinterested waiter, whose phone was on charge near our table and ringing constantly. The food took a while to arrive, but was tolerable.
Finally, the safe, TV and refrigerator were all switched off, with no obvious way to turn them on. The minibar was floating in warm water.
If all you are looking for is a place close to the train station, and you don't need any sleep/showers/safe/TV/cold minibar goods/good service - then I guess this place is perfect for you.
However, if you love 90s hip-hop, are short and enjoy 9 bright lights in your face then this is the hotel for you!
Don't stay in 305!
