I stayed at Crowne Plaza Today New Delhi Okhla, several times over a three month period. Each time it was a pleasure, and a very much needed break from the busy Indian cities I’ve been traveling to. Check in and check out was fast and accurate each time. Great service every step of the way from reservation, arrival at the hotel, dealing with special requests such as booking multiple rooms for my colleagues, airport pickups and drop offs, Delhi restaurants and attraction recommendations and so on. They do recognize Priority Club members and the staff really took care of us.
The rooms and suites are typical of Crowne Plaza rooms and offer good protection from the street noise; very important in India. Great beds, once again standard, washrooms are large, very clean, all toiletries available. Air Conditioning can be controlled very well and is not noisy; if you go to other hotels in India do not make an assumption that this will always be the case.
This property has a very nice and large gym with lots of equipment, sauna, (or you can just walk outside on the streets…), a splendid outdoor swimming pool, long enough that you can actually have a good swim.
The Club level offers a lounge, with a conference room that you can rent. I did actually used it for a business meeting; perfect setup. While other CP lounges offer some food and drinks in the lounge, at this property there are only some snacks, tea and coffee. Actually on my last visit (early June) the coffee machine was out of service. This would be one area that they can improve.
On the second level / first floor you will find the hotel restaurant , EDESIA, offering a wide selection of Indian, Western and Japanese cuisine. You can even have a cheese burger if you want, and it is good – tested by one of my colleagues. Worth mentioning is the buffet. At 1600 rupees it offers you a chance to test quite a few foods and the desert selection is priceless! Definitely a restaurant I would recommend. One area they could improve is the smoke exhaust system from the kitchen. The chefs do a great job cooking right in front of you but the smoke is unfortunately permeating the entire seating area.
Transfer from the airport to the hotel was 30 minutes during the night and as long as 1.5 hours during the rush hour. I traveled both by hotel shuttle and prepaid taxis. If you stay at this hotel, it is unlikely you are on a very tight budget so the prepaid taxi at 400 to 480 rupees should be seen more of a one time adventure then something you want to repeat. The hotel shuttles, 1750 rupees one way, are definitely the way to go especially if you are tired after a long flight, or in the summer, or is your first time visiting. On a couple of nights we decided to go out to Connaught Place, and it took us 30 to 45 minutes by hotel shuttle, which you pay by time and distance.
Overall I strongly recommend both the hotel and the restaurant and will return when in Delhi.
