“Excellent grouting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

Grout (the cement between tiles) seldom gets the credit it deserves and has probably never been discussed before on Tripadvisor - but it is important. The reason I say this is because the craftsmanship that goes into good grouting demonstrates the attention to detail and quality finish you expect in the very best hotels. The Leela Palace falls into this category. The ambiance is lavish, almost opulent, and the rooms have been finished to exquisite detail, right down to mini TVs to fall asleep to as you relax in a full size bath. And that is where you will notice (or probably not) how good the grout is.
The reason I am hung up on grout is that last week I reviewed the Lotte in Moscow and gave it 5 stars even though the tiling was poor and they had left in the spacers.
The Leela I am rating 4 even though the finish quality is better (all other things being equal). Why? Because you get slugged for paying extra for wi-fi. In this day and age there is no excuse for high end hotels to be doing this.
Otherwise this place will not disappoint.

From the time we landed at the airport, we were picked up by the Hotel personnel and taken to the hotel. Thus saving us all the hassle of finding the transport etc
We received a very warm and professional welcome as we entered. We were given a garland and Indian style mark on the forehead for good health.
Concierge of the hotel were always aware of our presence as a CUSTOMER. Their recognition that Customer is number 1 was very evident in everything they did.
Room was very clean and contained items beyond our imagination
The food choice in all the restaurants were great and the servers were very efficient and pleasant. All our querries were personally answered by the Chef himself
Our tour to TajMahal and sigtseeing the Delhi city were well ccordinated. The guides provided were very knowlegeable in history of Agra and Delhi

happened to spend the last night of our trip here and it was the second Leela I had ever entered.
I found it to be really top notch and it confirmed that while all Leela's have similarities in deco and outfit, they also are wonderful in all aspects.
Nice large rooms, impressive lobby, charming athmosphere, great service... everything is just enjoyable.
A special praise needs to go to thei culinary offer. While I arrived after 7 PM on the actual Diwali night, I obviously could not get any reservation in their top end restaurant "le Cirque" and we had to settle for the multicuisine garden side "Cube".
The food quality was so surprisingly high which made it a real discovery. Well done !

We stayed in the Leela Palace for 3 nights. Our suite was beautifully decorated; none of the over-careful beige blahness of various upscale western hotels, but color and art and design. The hotel boasts immaculate service; the staff was incredibly solicitous and helpful and the one restaurant we kept going to (the Qube; usually buffets) had delicious food. We tried ordering a la carte just once and that didn't go so well, with the meal taking almost an hour to arrive; but we had the feeling that this wasn't what this particular restaurant was set up for.

The Leela Palace is in a part of New Delhi called the Diplomatic Enclave. It's not a very interesting area to walk around in, but what I realized after a few days is that Delhi isn't really a walking city in the first place, and that this location was actually helpfully central and very secure. After meals and meetings at a few other hotels, we came away feeling we'd picked the best possible place to stay. An oasis of peace in a complicated city.

We actually had big expectations when booking this hotel. It was going to be our next stop for our honeymoon. The hotel itself is beautiful with every rich and fancy details in design. I am sure many people are having a fulfilling stay here, but for us it wasn’t that way. In our room our hairdryer and safe wasnt working. I had to wait more than 30 mins to get a new hair dryer and they never fixed the safe during our stay. Our TV in the bathroom had some problems and etc which we informed but wasnt solved.
For our 2nd day we wanted to arrange a car and a guide for a city tour. As it was our honeymoon they did a upgrade with the car but unfortunately they missed the guide. We got in the car and asked the driver where the guide is, he said he will help. So we thought its cool, both driver and guide no problem. But during the day he couldnt explain us anything. Just an example, we were asking the history of Red Fort, he was answering as “it is a very old building” . He took us to places which we said we didnt want to go as our schedule was tight and we wanted to visit just some places and spend more time there. Which we couldn’t.
I had only one full day in this city, on my honeymoon with a tight budget. And it turned out as a disappointing journey. I came back to the frontdesk, they said we didnt hire a guide, I explained that why should I hire just a driver as I told them its our first time here and we want to know the city and we especially asked for a guide. Anyway it took them more than 24 hours to get back to me. Which I pushed them to get an answer from the responsible manager. At the end with me forcing, they did a favour on the amount we were supposed to pay for the city ride, but of course they can never bring the day back.

Not a detail is overlooked in this grand but highly personal hotel, where the very finest electronic accoutrements make the rooms über-convenient. The staff, from concierge Nitin to the Qube chef Afnan (who prepares the finest breakfast mushroom tomato ragout) to the housekeeping staff to the welcoming team, outshine the staff of any hotel in the world we've found. The Leela is styled in traditional decor with the finest fabrics, furnishings and, in the lobby, soaring ceilings used to create grandeur like an old palace, with sparkling marble everywhere. Sincerity and hospitality fill the air, and one feels pampered in the best of ways. Several fine dining establishments can be found here. The Indian restaurant is lovely but a bit overpriced; we didn't try the others, except for Qube for the grand breakfast under Anand's watchful eye. A beautiful exercise facility and spa, a rooftop pool with a 360-degree view of the city, and the finest breakfast buffet we've ever seen make the Leela a stand-out for any occasion I can imagine. Perfection!

Room Tip: Some might want a garden view, but our room 725 was fantastic with a grand vista of the boulevard be...
