“Unexpected at this price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2012

Absolute luxury in every small detail. I experienced some of the top hotels all over the world. Adlon in Berlin, Kempinski Grand in Geneva, Intercontinental Le Grand in Paris, Four Seasons in Damascus or Danieli in Venice are some of them. And all of them seem to me very trivial compared to the Leela Palace in New Delhi. The breakfast buffet at The Leela is incredible. I would pay just to take a look on it. Everywhere in the hotel you see sophisticated compositions of exotic flowers. Admirably is not so much the fact that the flowers are delivered from Thailand, New Zealand or Indonesia as the fact that the personnel knows exactly where those flowers come from and will tell it to you with perfect willingness. It is not possible to mention here all the marvellous peculiarities I faced there and never saw somewhere else. I would recommend to every admirer of world class hotels to visit New Delhi just to experience the Leela Palace. It was my first stay to Delhi and I perceived The Leela Palace as the most impressive attraction there. Sorry, Delhi.

On a short business trip to Delhi, we were coaxed by the Leela Bangalore relationship manager to experience the newly opened property in New Delhi in the Chanakyapuri area. And I am so glad we did take her offer and stayed there for a couple of nights!

Location: Chanakyapuri is the heart of South Delhi. Close to the highway for access to Gurgaon, yet not far from South Ex and Connaught Place. Ideal location for both a business traveler as well as a tourist.

Architecture: Like all other Leela properties (except the Mumbai one), this one believes in grandeur. Yet there is a certain subtlety to the whole look of the building facade. The overall shape is a cube. Cubes are elegant, balanced, equal sides and very powerful. So the structure does convey both power and elegance.

Hotel Interiors: There is a certain blend of modern and traditional in their interiors. The grand flower arrangements, the Italian marbles floors with Indian carpets and intricately carved ceilings and furniture. The lighting is not too bright and there is a light music in the background. The lobby though small, opens to a garden outside and also leads you to their coffee shop and their signature Indian restaurant Jamavar.

Service: Was excellent. Very attentive. The staff was epitomizing the Indian hospitality tradition of "Atithi Devo Bhava". Treat each guest as God. We experienced their service during dinner at Jamavar, check in as well as during the breakfast in their cafe. Break fast was the busiest of all times, yet well managed by the staff to ensure that every guest got their experience of a Leela buffet breakfast.

Food: The breakfast like any other Indian five star was grand. A meal fit for a king. Choice of fresh fruits, fresh baked breads, flavoured yoghurts, cereals and other western choices. Along with this eggs made to order completed the western selection. There was an Indian selection which had both options, North Indian and South Indian. And to be friendly to our Japanese and Chinese guests, they had an Asian section as well. Once you have had the breakfast, you will want to go back to sleep! We also dined at Jamavar. Excellent quality and service. Arrived promptly, fresh, hot and tasting very good. The server was very attentive to refill the fried papads on time. The nans came out crisp and hot as we ordered.

Gym: The gym is fairly large. A wide array of cardio equipment though with limited weight training options. One thing which I felt was not very well planned was the fact that it was completely indoors. There were no windows looking outside from the gym to a garden or on to the city. They could have planned this with a little more thought.

Room: A very well appointed room. A pillow menu, very high tech in order to operate the TV, you must use an iPod Touch. One could control the functionalities like changing channels and volume and even switch it on and off using the nifty app on this iPod. The desk was well organised with a large number of options should you wish to plug your device to the TV through HDMI or S Video.

Bathroom: A separate shower area from the WC made it convenient and spacious. A separate TV opposite the tub should you wish to soak and watch your favorite show! The toiletries were from a London manufacturer along with everything you may need for your stay should you have forgotten!

To top all of this, they have the NYC restaurant, Le Cirque on the 10th floor. India's only restaurant. The owner has spent everything he has earned over the last few years in this one hotel to make sure that he is immortalised with it!

Overall, the experience was flawless, the sleep peaceful, the stomach full, the heart content and the soul well rested! I would love to stay there again!

This hotel is beautiful. The rooms are large and the service is absolutely the best. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who would wants to stay at an amazing hotel in New Delhi. They have recently opened the pool and as expected it is beautiful and the pool staff was the most professional and helpful I have ever encountered. Keep up the great work Leela you deserve all the accolades you receive.

I never stay at 5-star hotels but figured i needed it at the end of a 3-week holiday in India. It's brilliant. The rooms are divine, the staff is the same, and they don't nickel-and-dime you like other upscale hotels. I arrived before check-in (no problem) and they offered me a free late check-out. I joined the free guest reward program and i rec'd free internet. The spa (free) is nice, the breakfest buffet is superb. It's a short tuk-tuk ride to Delhi's excellent subway. I would definitely return.

I can't describe how I felt about the hotel, we were only there for one night, I could have stayed forever. They checked us in in our room as the bags had been taken up and our passports were in there. Beautifully decorated. We checked in and stayed until our airport transfer. The roof top infinity pool was amazing, the Library (bar) was intimate - we sat by the fire in two wing backed chairs. We had dinner in Jamravar and breakfast in the Qube, exceptional all round. TV in the bathroom, large, warm fluffy towels, over 6 pillow choices and a butler. Fabulous, the best hotel I've ever stayed in. Staff were friendly all round and very helpful

Room Tip: We were on the 6th floor in a Premier room, spacious and opulent

What a hotel, stayed here in november December as a precursor for a cycling trip thru Rajastan. The more you look the more detail you see.Its really amazing, needed a doctor 45 minutes he took. The food is outstanding, the staff are worlds best and if you want a chat they are very obliging and interesting If you are going to Agra to see the Taj do it in the hotel BMW they are excellent drivers and trust me you will appreciate the safety of these exellent cars.We saw a runaway bus shoot across the island and our two lanes of traffic and mow down some pedesrians. We didnt need it but I was happy we were in a good safe car.Its a truly well run beautiful hotel and if you are fussy you wont be disappointed.

Sometimes you have to wait until desert before you are willing to state how good the entire meal was, but sometimes things are just so good, that you know long before the meal is finished that the whole affair will be more than you expected.

With the Leela Palace Kempinski in Delhi, I knew within seconds of entering the hotel that it would be one of the nicest and highest-class hotels that I have visited.

You don't "check-in" by standing at a counter but are invited to have a seat in the lounge and are offered a drink as your passport is taken by a very pleasant man who will do all the paperwork as you enjoy the company of an equally-pleasant woman who welcomes you to Delhi and answers any questions you might have.

The room is beyond what I expect in a five-star hotel, and I have been to many all over the world and I expect a lot.

But possibly I can point to one small thing in the rooms that can save me a lot of writing and save you a lot of reading: There is a television at one end of the bath with a waterproof remote control.

It isn't relevant whether you might use this or not.

It simply points to the fact that the Leela Palace Kempinski has overlooked nothing to make sure that you receive everything that you might want...and then even more than that.

When the person showed me the room, he asked whether it was satisfactory.

I said that if this room would not satisfy even the most demanding guest, they should be kicked out of India.

If this hotel does not satisfy you, I suggest looking on another planet, not for a different hotel on this one.
