Whether you are in Delhi for a short or long stay, Sham Nath Villa is the place to stay. Conveniently located in the historic Civil Lines, this B&B is only two minutes away from the metro station with the same name, giving you easy access to central Delhi and most other tourist attractions. You are also within walking distance of many historical gems off Delhi’s beaten track: the Indraprastha College, Delhi’s oldest women’s college (arrange to visit their archives), the Nicholson Cemetery and St. James’ Church, the Flagstaff Tower of Indian Mutiny fame, to name just a few.
The villa itself has much to recommend it: stylish and spacious rooms, air conditioning during the hot season, hot water, internet and TV, an impressive garden. But nothing really surpasses the hospitality of the owners and their staff. Their care and consideration for their guests is reflected in pretty much everything they do, from the food they serve (always fresh, always delicious!), the water bottles they store daily in the fridge for the perusal of their guests and the ad-hoc cooking lessons they offer to the willingness with which they dispense advice and help on all sorts of matters, be they places to visit, eat and shop, getting a mobile phone, transport options in and around Delhi, money exchange, etc. And then there are, of course, the wonderful conversations with Mrs. Shalini Sham Nath, who will make you feel at home within minutes of your arrival, share with you pieces of their family history and many fascinating insights into Indian life and culture. There is no better way to summarize this place than to repeat what others have already said, that it is truly a home away from home. It’s the kind of place which reminds you that one of the best things about travelling is meeting people who give you the impression that you have always known them: you’ll miss them when you go and you’ll be more than happy to return again and again.
