“Very average Chin-indian”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2012

Was skeptical when I saw that the restaurant serves both Indian and Chinese, but still we ventured in. Ambience was not bad, not good, passable. Waiters really hover all over you, some 4-5 waiters kept roaming around us the entire meal, waiting to jump to serve us the moment they saw any plate empty, very intrusive and irritating.
Now on the food - menu is extensive with Chinese, Indian and some Thai/Indonesian/ Malaysian thrown in. We ordered some Tom Kang something soup, the waiter said its Tom Yum soup, what came was more like a tomato-rasam spiked with dhaniya patti and stalks, adrak and loads of onion !!! with some lemon-grass thrown in to make it taste bit Tom-Yum - was absolutely the worst Tom Yum ever. On the food, the Chicken Hakka noodles were ok, a lamb dish was good but the Nasi Goreng we ordered was again miles away from anything close to Nasi Goreng. Was more like a schezwan fried rice available at any road side cart. Prices are quite expensive for the quality served.
If you are craving for chin-indian, better to stick to the likes of Bercos.

“Renovated but poor service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2011 via mobile

Went back here after a gap of a few months, they have refurbished the inside and it's looking really nice, it hadn't even had a lick of paint in the past seven years so it was a bit overdue for a tidy up. They have also changed the menu, added some Indian dishes and freshened up the choices. nothing spectacular but OK. Now for the problem, there seems to have been a change in the staff and it was slow and I attentive, I counted 7 waiters and in the area of the restaurant we were in there were probably 12 customers, at this ratio you might expect stellar service, but not so. Random service with no style or consistency in approach. I don't think any of the waiting staff had ever had any training and it showed. I will persevere as I like the place and the management team tries hard.
Train you staff, assign waiters to tables, teach them to communicate with guests, train them on your menu.

“Good food, great ambiance...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2011

In August 2011, I happened to visit Near East, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi three times; once for a sit in lunch with my colleagues and twice for 'take away' to home for dinner...we found the Mongolian Pot soup, served in large quantity for family, a good value for money and high on taste too...the portions served for a plate of veg hakka noodles and fried rice were also impressive...we tried two different chicken dishes, both of non-spicy variety and their qualities quite lived upto our expectation...we truly savoured the 'steamed fish' cooked in a sauce with plentiful of fresh coriander leaves thus giving it a mild aroma...we would surely like to go back to Near East in the near future...

“Easy going and Value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2010

Near East is one of those places that stand out not so much because of their culinary expertise but due to the ideal amalgamation of everything else.

I wouldn't name it amongst the best oriental restaurants, and yet I have visited it more often than the best.

At first glance, nothing about the place is amazing or out of this world, but their attention to detail and personalized service combined with decent food, decor, value for money pricing and a fairly comprehensive menu makes the place a little above 'above average'.

They connect with every customer somehow...everyone from a grand parent to the bill payer to the little ones like going back.
