“Still the best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2011

First discovered this gem a few years back. Mr & Mrs Kumar are still the most welcoming and gracious hosts in an otherwise hostile city. I'll keep coming back. Just wish they had more rooms.

For our first trip to New Delhi, we were welcomed by Kumar and his family at their lovely home. We have been traveling around the world with our 1 year old and we could not have chose a better place to stay. Kumar and his family eased us into the pace of New Delhi by helping us arrange our visit. Anyone who visits a new city could always use a little help on what to do and especially with how much things should cost. I cannot say it enough, perfect choice for us.

We started our trip by arriving to the airport late. Kumar set up a driver to pick us up. He also checked our flight delay and relayed this to the driver. Upon arriving at the house, he gave us the quick tour, and let us settle in. Although, not part of the deal, he fed us wonderful snacks which amounted to a meal. Breakfast comes with the stay, as does a nice cold drink selection in the mini-fridge. Never-the-less, we continued to push our luck a few times by asking for food on several occasions....The answer was always "no problem".

We don't see too many couples traveling with their babies...so you can imagine how we stick out in certain countries. Big stroller, red headed baby, 6'3" Dad, pale white skin covered in tattoos. No matter, Kumar made us feel right at home. He was more than willing to help with anything we needed. We toured around the city by flagging down Tuk-Tuks and spent our evenings conversing with his wonderful "babies" and the rest of his family.

We travel every year and plan to spend more time in Delhi next year. Our choice of course will be to stay with Kumar at Anika's Nest. His prices as I told him are too low, but just right for all budgets. Very glad to have found Anika's Nest.

Do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions about our stay. wintlen@msn.com

What an amazing find! Situated in the quiet New Friends Colony opposite the temple Mata Ka Mandir our room was comfortable, clean and spacious, Anika's food first class and the hospitality second to none.

And then there was Mr Kumar!

Nothing, and I mean nothing was too much trouble. With an encyclopaedic knowledge of Delhi, Mr Kumar had advice for every situation. His care and hospitality was exemplified by him getting up at 3am in the morning to translate for me as I attempted to sort out buying a pair of spectacles. Likewise he sorted out the porters at Delhi station, a herculean task on its own. The man is a fixer sans pareil and you should listen to everything he has to say.

We're just looking forward to our next visit to Delhi. Terry and Jane.

We spent two nights in the house of Mr. Kumar an his wife Anika. He gave us a very warm welcome and took care for everything. The room was clean and Mr. Kumar was a very good host, who recommended us some good places to see in Delhi, which are not mentioned in the travel guides. One wish of Mr. Kumar was, to mention his two well educated small dogs, who are real members of his family, too.

I was attending a friend's wedding in a rather small city in India so I had to transfer several flights to get to his village. I was planning on sleeping overnight in the Delhi airport but a friend on the plane recommended against it and we went to the BnB place that he was staying at. We got in late and I didn't ask for the price. In the morning the bill came to me: WHOA. He charged me the full price of the luxury room (~$200US dollars). For a solo traveller, this was unexpected because he had so many empty rooms (I felt like I was doing him a favor) and unfair. I had to give him American dollars because I hadn't even had time to exchange $$. Nice guy but I'm never going to stay here again.

First we like to thank the guest for giving writing this feedback but in the same breadth will mention that she has economized on the truth.

We have two rooms. One priced at $ 75 and the other much larger room at $ 100.

She stayed in $ 75 room.

Once she checked-in, there were no empty rooms.

It is important to note that we entertain guests only by prior communication. Walk-ins are not easily entertained.

Just because she came with the guest staying with us, we entertained her plus it was late in night.

Wondering where she will go so late in night, we allowed her to stay against all our instincts.

We did a favour to her rather than she may think she has done a favour to us.

We are not a discount hotel and do not have the policy of offering lower rates to walk-ins.

Is it our fault that she did not check the rates?

In the morning she was shown our website where our rates are quoted for the whole world.

She was so suspicious that she checked the bills of prior guests as well.

She opted for many services at our home which did add upto about $ 200 including the room cost. The services portion was about $ 125.

Later on she wanted to opt out of them, inspite of having booked the services, we refunded $ 100. She had utilized about $ 25 of services.

In Feb 2010 my family and I had two Incredible weeks in India. Highlights being our Tiger safari in Corbett National Park and the Taj Mahal at dawn. However the most memorable and unique part of our visit was our stay at Anika's Nest.

From the moment we arrived it was like staying with family. We arrived late at night and had an early morning departure - by the time our driver arrived Anika had organised our packed lunch...a smorgasbord of curry, paneer and paratha all packed in a travelling cooler.

A week later we were back after a 10 hour drive, the last 2 wrestling with New Delhi traffic jams. The pleasure of arriving "home" was huge. As we had arrived too late (and tired) to go out for food Kumar organised a local takeaway to deliver - not as good as Anika's food - but over a few shared beers with my host and other guests a great evening of chat and laughs was had.

The next phase of our holiday was off to Jaipur and Agra, so off we went again and Kumar teased us terribly about not spending more time in New Delhi.

Kumar is a Force of Nature - Irresistible. If you are looking for an anonymous hotel experience don't come here, a stay at Anika's Nest is hospitality on steroids and will deliver guaranteed travelling memories. Would I recommend? I wouldn't stay anywhere else!
