“Great design & huge rooms; service could improve”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2010

We stayed here for 1 night in a Deluxe room on the 7th floor. The design of the hotel is fantastic & we loved our huge room, but the service definitely wasn't up to the Aman standard. One big exception was the bar & restaurant staff, who were consummate professionals.

The design of the hotel is beautiful & worth a visit just to see. Our room had a high & clear view overlooking the front lawn & the park across the street. The room itself was huge - apparently all of the rooms are the same layout, but those on the top floors are in the Deluxe category. The outdoor plunge pool with lounging cushion & balcony was spacious & a relaxing place to spend a few hours, especially with the cleverly designed lattice walls built into the facade of the hotel providing some shade. The complimentary internet access worked fine & the fruit bowl was full of fantastic, perfectly ripe local persimmons & gooseberries. My only complaint about the room is that the shower seemed rather cheaply made; the handle pulled off in my hand & the water flow was sparse. The water also didn't get hot enough. The bathtub was nice, with very nice locally made bath oils, but there was the same problem with the heat of the water.

The service from the hotel staff ranged from nonexistent (no one responded to an email I sent), to rude & clueless (when I followed up 3 days later with a phone call, when I tried to arrange for a hotel tour), to totally disorganized & borderline incompetent (the tour again), to extremely good - i.e. Aman standard (the guide, the housekeeping staff - who sent me an email asking how to return a hairbrush I had left in the room after checking out!). Overall, the service was just not even close to being up to Aman standard. It took us 15 minutes to check out, the hotel couldn't provide correct directions to a very well-known restaurant for our driver, the spa staff were well-meaning but a bit clueless, etc. Many of the staff told us this was their first job out of college, which could explain some of the rough edges in the service, but I would expect Aman training to sort this out.

Besides our tour guide & housekeeping, only the F&B staff stood out as being true professionals; we had a drink at the tapas bar & a dinner at the Indian restaurant, which was quite good if a bit sanitized. The hotel managers greeted us at the entrance on our arrival & interacted with us at different points during our stay, which was a nice touch. The staff also gave us a late check-out until 10pm as the hotel wasn't full, which we appreciated very very much. And the senior manager followed up with a personal email after our stay. Overall, I would still recommend the hotel but think the service really needs improvement to live up to the Aman brand.

I was visiting Delhi for a conference (at the TAJ Palace - see seperate review) and wanted to try this new hotel, which has taken ages to complete, beforehand. Its a fabulous place to stay but dont expect to leave the hotel for siteseeing! The rooms are enormous and beautifully fitted out.The pool, restaurants, bars and all of the public areas offer a scale that 's hard to match. The finish and fittings are perfect.Food choices are fun for Delhi with excellant Tapas.Although the Imperial Hotel is a real favourite this property is beyond comparison in Delhi and is world standard. The staff knew my name every where I went in the hotel and were genuine and thoughtful.Well done AMAN - again!

am writing this review as I'm spending my second night at the Oberoi in Delhi while missing the Aman New Delhi instead. The problem with the Aman is that once you stay here u will never want to stay anywhere else! Arrived 3 am at the Aman hotel after a red eye flight from Hong Kong, 30 min later was whisked into my super spacious room with minimal fuss, the in room check in took seconds and then I was left alone to explore the room. The hotel has ten floors and my floor had maybe five rooms at most, it felt like a room of around 1500' with outdoor terrace and my own huge private plunge pool with a suede daybed. The bathroom had a most inviting bathtub (that I took advantage of after a nice long massage) the room came with a Bose system, lots of fresh flowers, comfy living room area, but again I was most blown away by the private plunge pool in a city hotel. The spa was beautifully decorated and just pure bliss to spend time at. Lunch and dinner (tried both restaurants, once has a variety of cuisine and the other decent Tapas. I'm now at the Oberoi coz this is where my friends are staying, but if Oberoi is 5* then Aman should be 6*. For us$40 more vs the Oberoi suite I got at the Aman 1) a super fast stress free check in (vs Oberoi where it took forever and they were going to put me in one room til another one was ready), 2) 2-3x the space at the Oberoi incl private plunge pool, much bigger bathroom and spotless bathtub 3) I didn't check out of my room til 530 pm at the Aman and it wasn't an issue at all 4) free wifi 5) absolute peace and quiet 6) my free car transfer to the Oberoi was in one of these beautiful old silver Mercedes (I can't remember the make but something like that). Only gripe if I have to be picky is that there really is not a gift shop for souvenirs at Aman while the Oberoi has quite a few shops to wander in.
If I come back to Delhi, I'm only coming back to the Aman and not the Oberoi or Taj (where I stayed the first time I stayed in Delhi).
ps. Pictures to follow when I'm back home

A beautiful luxury hotel. Aman have created a haven in the midst of the Delhi chaos. Helpful staff and comfortable surroundings as well as divine food in the tapas bar. This hotel is gem waiting to be discovered!

How could it be possible to translate the individual attention to detail, perfection of service, natural beauty and unique touches of 'an Aman' and applythem to a city as frenetic and relentless at New Delhi?
Not only does the Aman New Delhi deliver on every level, but it manages to increase the group's own standards of matchless personal service and deliver them in a place so cool and peaceful you have to constantly sit and admire the photogenic lines of architectural and interior designed perfection. This is understatement and quality on the most beautiful scale.
We were not business visitors to Delhi and needed to feel cocooned, welcome and special in a city of millions of souls. We chose the Aman because we have stayed in many other of their resorts around the world, marvelling at a knack to bring style, service and local flavour to a competitive world of top-end accommodation; we were intrigued to see if there would be compromise when the brand turned its attention to a proper, full-on city hotel. If anything this was better than its much smaller cousines. The rooms are beautiful (don't be tempted to scroll down the website to the 'bigger' rooms. Stick to the wonderfully apportioned and beautifully appointed 'Aman Suite'. You will be thrilled with the size, style and ambience of the room, with its own pool, outside terrace and peerless butler service).
Enjoy breakfast (and lunch and dinner) in the restauarants, visit the Spa and just soak up the feel of this amazing, stylish home-from-home.
