This year I stayed at Wongdhen house on three occasions. It has a good reputation and made a beeline for the place when arriving in Delhi. This was despite having been told that they were fully booked. I went on the off chance and to see if they could recommend somewhere else. But they had a room. It was brilliant. As a touring cyclist I took my precious touring bike into my room. The room was clean and comfortable. The standards are very high in comparison to typical Indian Hostels. Moreover it was excellent value and relatively cheap. Naturally its situation amongst the Tibetan community at Majnu Ka Tilla speaks volumes. It is an oasis amongst the madness of Delhi. The receptionist was very friendly as were all the staff I met. I cannot vouch for the dining facilities or food as I did not use preferring to use the street cuisine in the mainstream Indian community.
Communal washing facilities on my floor were fine; plentiful hot water, a shower and cleaned daily to good Western standards. WiFi is available throughout the hotel although the web page log in is a little more complicated than a simple password method. It worked well enough.
I telephoned from Nepal to arrange a further stay during a flight stopover and was easily arranged to provide the same standard room. I had already booked a further stay before leaving India for home. Everything was great and helped make my overall trip less stressful.
I have no hesitation in recommending Wongdhen House and its competent staff. As always with good places it is worth booking well in advance to avoid disappointment.
