First impressions- the lobby. Wow. On a par with the Taj Mahal....ok not quite. But it is still spectacular, with over the top oppulant decor. They have spent a fortune on the lobby, which lures you into believing the rest of the hotel is just as good. It's not. The rooms aren't anything special. It seems all their money is spent on the ground floor and every other floor is ignored.

Every single day out key lard would stop working, so we would have to go all the way back to the lobby to get it sorted...every day. The wifi was ridiculously expensive. At the price paid for a room, it should've been complimentary.

Also the food here gave me food poisoning and really bad diahreoa for 2 weeks after my stay here.

Not worth the price.

The Royal Plaza’s name is misleading. It is far from regal and it is not a plaza. It is a hotel though and while it is supposed to be a 4-star but it feels much more like a 3-star or less. The place is tired, the rooms are small and desperately need updating, the restaurant is chaotic (train your staff!), the breakfast is mediocre, and the décor is horrid. Delhi does not have many decent hotels but if you have to come to the capital stay somewhere else like the Shangri La or the Metropolitan. I can’t think of many positives except perhaps that the staff were polite and attentive and the fact that the faux Roman statues and neo-classical art were pure comedy. There is a real irony in the fact that the hotel bill includes a “luxury tax”. I don’t mind paying for something I use but at the Royal Plaza there was no luxury to be had.

We have recently stopped at the Royal Plazza twice, both times we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. the hotel has a lovely pool which we used both times - with great sun beds around the pool for relaxing. The restaurant was excellent, first class breakfasts, freshly cooked with plenty of variety and fresh fruit. Dinner as also very good, we ate in the main restaurant and in the Chinese restaurant. good service too. Very helpful reception/bar staff but prices for drinks were high.The only minor gripe we have about this hotel is that the rooms are small - disappointing in fact for a hotel of this standing. However I would recommend staying at the Royal Plazza to anyone staying in New Delhi.
