“Our Stay @ Hotel Singh Empire Dx”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2012

A decent hotel. From the outside it does not look so good. Inside the rooms are good, service was good. The general manage was very helpful, including the rest of the staff. Coming from South Africa we are used to stayiny in hotels such as the Holiday Inns and Southern Sun Hotels, so we were satisfied. To the management keep up the good work. We only had one little issue at this hotel - we got there on New Years eve and nearly all of the staff were "forcing" us to join the New Years party - our only mission was to get to bed after being awake for about 36 hours. I will recemmend to anyone. We were at this hotel from 31 December 2011 to 03 january 2012. The taxi driver ( Amar ) that was arranged by the hotel was excellent, really had our interest and not what he could get out of the travel. Suresh Singh Umhlanga Rocks Durban South Africe [--]

I stayed here for 4 nights over the new year period and chose Hotel Singh Empire as it seemed to have the best reviews out of all the discount hotels in the Paharganj area of New Delhi. I wasn't going to pay a fortune for a hotel stay and this one seemed reasonably priced. However, having read some dreadful reviews of this hotel about two weeks prior to my stay I was considering cancelling and finding somewhere else. Fortunately, it wasn't all that bad in the end.

As promised in the website they did offer a courtesy pick up atDelhi airport, but the car was really dirty inside though. The hotel is located in an area that could only be described as a war zone, but very conveniently located 5 minutes walk from the railway station, 10 minutes from the Main Bazaar and about 20-25 from the Connaught Place area.
The hotel itself has a rather sterile looking reception area with 2 or 3 staff behind the desk who always seem to be extremely busy. Couldn't figure out why though! The doorman seems to want a tip every time he opens the door from you and the staff will really try hard to sell you tours etc.

The room was fine, reasonably priced and looked pretty much like what is one their website, I reckon it was recently renovated though. Other guests may not have been so lucky.

The following points may be enough to convice others to stay away from this property:

1. The noise at night was terrible with car horns going off etc. so ear plugs absolulely. necessary.
2. Lack of towels and toilet rolls etc. These were not replenished as required and had to continuously ask for these.
3. Shower that took ages to deliver hot water and was the type that floods the whole bathroom in the process.
4. Room seemed to be somewhat damp due to poor bathroom extraction.
5. Mediocre breakfast of potato curry, boiled eggs and chapatis. Never took any evening meals there.
6. Non existent internet, the website metions in room wifi, that never worked for me and two out of the three computers available in the lobby were broken.

Overall, if you want a place to just to sleep for a few days that's reasonably priced, this place will do just that.

first of all, the pictures on their website is totally misleading. i was put in a room that completely looks nothing like whats on the website. the bell boy that showed me my room actually tried to charge me 50 rupees for the toilet paper. the recetionist got this straightened out right away and apologized. i asked to be transferred to another room far from the street and the deaf people next to my room. hotel workers are very loud! and some guests, mostly local INDIANS are very loud! BREAKFAST was ok, nuthin speciall, had some variety on a daily basis which was one of the few good things about this hotel. free coffee was horrible so i had to settle for the one you can purchase for 50rupees. outside street is like world war 2...

the only good thing about the hotel? LOCATION! since its walking distance to the new delhi main railway station, which also has the airport express.. if you are in delhi for a few days...i would recommend this hotel for a place to crash but dont expect to PEACE and QUIET... oh also WIFI was pretty good..but my room 110, barely could get the signal and i had to stay close to my door or step out in the hallway to get better signal.....

Room Tip: definitely higher level and away from the street...

Firstly, amazing value for money considering the prices I have paid in India many times in the past. The room was very good quality, bed was good and had flat screen with plently of english channels as they had cable tv. Shower was big and decent pressure (though hot water ran out later in the day, this is normal in india due to water tanking)
The food (indian) was realy good and very tasty and it was pretty good value. we got diner included but it wasnt clear what was included so I wouldnt bother next time.
The location wasnt bad it was close to the railway station and the rikshau to conaplace for example was only 30 rs though we used cabs mostly and you can get to and from the airport in about 15-20 mins.
The issues I had were, the travel desk kept trying to rip us off (ie more expensive than official cabs even though they use normal personal cars) on car travel and the drivers wer terrible because they didn't know where to go (apart from when going to the airport) and kept taking us to places were they get commission.
The breakfast room and roof terrace restaurant were very basic and quite dirty. I'm used to this as ive lived in india but its was the contrast that I wasnt used to vs the rest of the hotel that was clean that was odd.

All in all for the price you cant grumble as it was much lower than what I usually pay, though I will be going slightly hight class next time I think.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the road otherwise the horning will wake you up

Bad:
1) Tariff card in the hotel differed from what I was expecting according to ClearTrip. They fudged the rates to give me an extra 3 hours before 12pm.
2) No hot water when we arrived in the morning. Took them about 45 minutes.
3) Cleanliness - 2 of 5 (dirty pillows/covers, dirty blankets)
4) Reception - 1 of 5 (2 of 4 people were very rude to both me and wife)
5) They gave us a room facing the main road - and it was extremely noisy.
6) Beware - this hotels gives you a tariff on arrival, and then adds 10% tax when you check out (which they should bear rightfully)

Arrived at the hotel at 4am and were greeted with a drink by the night staff. The rooms were basic, a decent size and clean. The location wasn't the best, a busy main road with maintenance going on outside, and a little further than expected to Connaught Place which is a rickshaw ride away. Breakfast could have been better, exchange rate given was good and get your money here instead of agra where the rate was poor. Value for money for a big city - OK.

When i booked the hotel i thought i was booking a mid range hotel. That was not the case. Although i paid 20 euros per night for a single room, the hotel was very poor. I had no toilet paper in the bathroom, the sheets had hair on them from the previous customers, they forgot to put towels in the bathroom ( even when they put they looked disgusting so i did not use them), and the air conditioning was broken. In the room there was only one plug working, so i had a problem charging my computer and mobile. All the stuff working at the hotel was pretty loud, so you couldn't really relax even in night time. Plus its not situated in a nice place, really dirty and noisy area. Only good thing was the free wi-fi.
