“Standard hotel (read pahar gunj Slandered) close to New Delhi Railway station”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

Very basic hotel but very close to the New Delhi Railway station and if you need to board the train in early morning or midnight….This is your place. Hotel cleanliness and standard is pretty all right for standard in Delhi (read pahargunj Slandered) much better than many budget hotels. The hotel provides free internet facilities at the lobby area with two laptops. I am not sure weather they have WIFI connection or not. Printing is little costly as they charged INR 10/- per page though there are few internet and telephone shop cross the road and they just charged you half of the price. Little noisy in particular in the morning when the cleaning staff loudly sing songs and chat with each other. Foods are pretty basic. Not all the rooms has refrigerator and if you are in need to store something in the refrigerator asked prior check in. Few tips for hotel price bargain…. If you are calling directly to the hotel or reach directly at the door always bargain the price as the manager may quote you almost 500/- INR extra. If you need bills you have to pay the taxes so if you do not need any bills your position to bargain is much higher. Avoid rooms like 104/204/304/305 as the rooms do not have any window….better checks the room prior check in and avoid the lobby level room as this will be very noisy.

Room Tip: Aviod lobby lavel room!

My wife & I were to spend 2 nights in Delhi & were not keen to stay in the area [Karol Bagh] where we had stayed on a previous trip to Delhi, so before we went travelling in Rajasthan we checked out the hotels in the Arakashan Road. They stood beside each other cheek & jowl & our first choice was the Hotel Grand Godwin with Hotel Legend International [HLI] as a reserve. We had agreed prices for both & agreed that I would phone the day before arrival to check that all was OK. Well, the Grand Godwin renegaded on the agreed price & was not very helpful; the HLI had no problem confirming it so we made our way to it when we arrived in Delhi.

The Hotel is OK, no Hilton but fine for a budget stay. The staff were friendly, the room was clean with a fridge, satellite TV [with several English channels], a comfortable bed & ample hot water! The were definitely no bed bugs!! In the lobby downstairs there was free internet though there was not a printer.

The hotel itself is very central with easy access to New Delhi station and a short drive to Connaught Circle, etc. There were always tuk tuks, cycle rickshaws & taxis around but do make sure you bargain hard & do not accept the first price!

Arakashan Road has lots of local shops, internet shops and street stalls. The neon lights & signage at night is like a Delhi Las Vegas! I did not notice any particularly good restaurants locally but I am sure they could be got to with a tuk-tuk. The fridge was great for keeping sodas, beers, etc ice cold!

On the whole not a bad hotel but I am sure that there are others very similar in the road, maybe at better prices.

Room Tip: Check out a few. If you do not want street noise get a room to the rear of the hotel.

this hotel is a total waste! the staff are very annoying and unfriendly
the travel agent guy is a devil in disguise
never take the hotel cab for sight seeing or they will take you to shops so the drivers get commission and get extra cash!!!
the rooms ARE big and nice but are filthy and no view and no window
no hot water, leaky taps , no shower, good tv but horrible cable and rotten soaps
only go here if you have A death wish or out of money

Room Tip: dont go there at all!

We stayed here the first night after arriving to India. The manager wanted to let us make a guided tour for 1000 ruies the first day by foot with a guy, who didn't speak english and has little idea about the places if interest. We managed to pay only 50, but then we've been charged for a public bus ride without having bought tickets with 75 rupies additionally. Room is not clean, we had hot water, no window. Near to te railway station though, but rather not a good choice

Overall it wasn't a bad stay, the staff were reasonably helpful and friendly though their English a little rusty at times!

The room was nice and spacious, the bed was comfy and the television had a good selection of English/American channels. The room service was also tasty and very cheap! All very nice after 3 months roughing it a bit whilst volunteering!

The downsides...I stayed for 6 nights and my room wasn't cleaned once and it took them 2 days to remove my room service plates! I also agree with other people that the travel agent was very overpriced, he can also be very pushy. He tried to get me to sign up to go to go on other excursions at least once a day when I made it very clear I wasn't interested! I'd make your own excursion arrangements/shop around the other travel agents on that front!

Not a bad experience but I'm sure there's better on offer for the same money in Delhi!
