After the heat of David, this is a really refreshing place. Beautifully arranged apartments in a garden full of flowers. You can sit on the terrace in front of your room and observe all the humming birds that drink from the feeders just a few meters away. The home-cooked food in the restaurant is delicious (and try the maracuja smoothie without sugar). Evenings you can spend alongside a roaring fire in the library (you can also use a computer there). Very nice and committed staff, though a bit unexperienced (which just fits into the familiar feeling). You get one free guided tour through the jungle (quite demanding though, if you are not so fit... we opted out most of it). We also spent two nights in a chalet in the jungle, which really is something else... no electricity, but battery-driven lamps, an open fire (which you need, it can become quite chilly), and a nice kitchen, so you can feel like Tarzan when looking out into the woods from the big veranda, but with nearly all the commodities of civilisation. It’s lush and green and wet, you know there are big cats outside (but you’ll never see them), fruit bats fly around you as soon as it gets dark, and it is very quite, apart from the sounds of the nearby river lulling you to sleep in the comfy beds. This is cloud forest, so it will rain! Bring a rain jackets, the ones you can borrow from the hotel have seen better days. Wouldn’t spend more than two nights there, but wouldn’t want to miss out on the two we did. And book in advance on line, it’s cheaper.
