“Honeymoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

Words cannot express how wonderful this place is! My husband and I spent part of our honeymoon here. The staff, the people, the food and the accommodations helped make our trip spectacular.

We stayed at a cabin located farthest from the lodge. Beautiful views, very romantic, and lots of wildlife and birds to see. Each morning, before breakfast, we were greeted with hot coffee and warm muffins.

We went on the bat cave/ hiking tour and also did the trip to Red Frog Beach. Each time, the staff packed us a terrific lunch to enjoy on our excursions.

The food is mind-blowingly good. Everything is fresh and local. I’m still talking about the cocktail Henry made that tasted like a red pepper.

Margaret and Henry created a very special place here. We can’t wait to return!

We decided to spend 4 nights in La Loma after seeing the very good reports from Tripadvisor (2 nights in Rancho 1 and 2 nights in Rancho 2) . And it was a great!!! the place is secluded into an amazing spot of nature, beautiful open-rooms with dramatic views to the bay (except rancho 1, which is so integrated into the jungle that you feel like a sloth living on a big tree... in fact we had one moving near around our rancho...). Great food and all the staff are really nice and take care of you. The owners Henry and Margaret were out for holidays at the time we were there but we must say that Karen and Steve were a top-ten hosts!! always welcoming with an smile, the best willingness to inform and suggest, attentive and, if this is not enough, Steve makes wonderful cocktails that we strongly recommend!! Thanks for everything dear Karen and Steve (and to the rest, of course...). Eva and Dominique

Wow! We spent 4 wonderful nights here. We were traveling with our 7 and 12 year old children. The grounds were amazing. The rooms were amazing. The food was delicious! The staff was friendly and helpful! We stayed in cabin 3. It felt like we were sleeping in the trees. Beautiful views, wild life watching, a good breeze at night. My kids loved the adventure, enjoyed the food, and felt completely comfortable. I would not take anyone much younger than 7. The trek up to the room includes 200 some odd steps, completely worth it, but may be hard to manage for younger children. I loved that the ladies in the kitchen used produce grown on the property. La Loma seemed to fit into the community and supports the community school. A great experience all around!

Room Tip: The upper cabins have a great view, feel like a tree house, and get a little breeze!

My husband and I came here for part of our honeymoon. We loved it so much that we ended up extending our stay for an extra night. The staff at La Loma had everything covered--from coffee/tea and muffins delivered to the cabin every morning, fresh, delicious meals, and lovely stories, all together making our stay feel like we were visiting with family and friends. We enjoyed hiking the island with an experienced local guide (Mr. Kelly), spent a day snorkeling near the National Park, tested our taste for adventure in the bat caves, and sipped wine in hammocks at sunset. We couldn't have dreamed of a better trip!

Room Tip: Lower cabin enjoys more jungle-animal spotting; The upper cabin view is not to be missed.

We had high expectations and La Loma exceeded them. The reviews are all true. We stayed in cabin 2 and had great views of the bay and the jungle. The food is amazing and the staff is so friendly and welcoming, my girlfriend and I felt as if we were staying with old friends. If you're looking for an affordable, relaxing, and authentic jungle vacation, this is it.

I can't say much that everyone else here hasn't already, our short stay was really amazing.

Henry and his wife and team of employees and interns are friendly, welcoming, laid back, and also provide amazing service and REALLY amazing food in a pristine jungle setting. Somehow they think of all the little details all the time.

The cabanas (rooms?) are built to maximize comfort as well as exposure to the surrounding environment. You can wake up to see sloths and monkeys hanging out in trees without having to get out of bed, while sipping the fresh hot coffee that they leave outside your room every morning. They also somehow manage to be totally off the grid without sacrificing anything.

I can't speak for all the tours, but the bat cave was awesome. All the employees were great and its impressive how engaged la Loma is with the local community. Check out the kindergarten that they run on the premises, I wish more businesses were as engaged with the community as they are.

Also just wanted to send out a special thank you Henry for being extremely tolerant and gracious with my girlfriend and my shoddy and last minute planning. We honestly weren't planning on staying at La Loma at all but our planned accommodations fell through at the very last minute (my fault). Henry let us stay with our friends who were staying at la Loma anyway, fitting us in for dinner with zero notice and making us feel welcome and comfortable from the getgo. We were only able to stay a night since we're traveling on a very tight budget, but my only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. Thanks Henry and La Loma crew.

Friendly staff and high quality little lodges. The rooms have no walls - only mosquito nets so you can really experience the jungle at night. The meals they serve is freshly cooked and has a lot of local elements. The whole enterprice is a rather social one and so they support local tribes, a school and kindergarden. They help a lot of locals to make a living. The have some vounteer-workers too. That's probably why the stay was a little expensive. I'd say it was well worth the money. Even though I don't like to pay extra for every single beer I drink when i stay a places in this price-range... But all together it was an awesome stop with very cool people running it.

Room Tip: Rooms are all quite equal i guess. It's a very nice hotel (it's not really a hotel...but i w...
