4 couples have traveled every Feb for 15+ yrs to a warm island. We consider Bastimentos to be our best so far. The first impression is an ahhhh moment, lush thick rainforest, brilliant tropical flowers, a peacefulness that immediately surrounds you as you enter the villa. Deep overhangs shelter you from sun or gentle showers, hammocks beckon. Its an eco haven of solar power, with soft rainwater for bathing. Each suite is 2story with a living area and balcony on the ground floor. a simple but comfortable bedroom/bath above with soothing cooling breezes. The food defies description. Each breakfast and dinner was a culinary delight of local seafood, fresh fruits and vegetables, mouthwatering desserts. Richard and Elana surpassed every expectation (Collette was in Montreal. Elena, a gorgeous vivacious local of Spanish decent charmed us all. Don't miss her shop at the entrance to Barracuda on main street in Bocas, Cristales del Mar, unique sea glass jewelery). We used the same water taxi each day, Cholo's. We chose trips to far away beaches to avoid the crowds. Zapatillo island was $25 per person, $20 to Starfish beach where the water was full of plate sized star fish. Chair rental was $5 a day. Crab wasnt cracked and mallett we were offered wasn't too clean. Stick to fried or smoked fish, delicious. A hand carved canoe brought in 17 live lobster in one load! In Bocas we loved the 2nd story wine bar owned by a friend of Elena's. Shopping in town was minimal but loved the red frogs on a leaf offered at every local booth plus Elenas jewelery. Would we go back? An absolute yes!! That's the highest compliment I know how to give.

Howler and white-faced monkeys as well as sloths are also an occasional sight.
