“Incredible trip to paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013

It had been over 3 years since we were last at Red Frog Beach Resort. And we were amazed at the difference. The natural beauty had always been there but the development itself has improved so much as to be unrecognizable from the past. We stayed at Villa #53 which is spacious, has beautiful views, and the nicest pool in the resort. The overall grounds and gardens are beautiful and we loved how the plant material was all from the surrounding area. One of our favorite treats this trip was a trip to the all new Susurro Spa. The setting is unlike anything you've ever experienced. A winding path that crosses a mountain stream leads you up a hill to the perfect naturally relaxing spot for your massage. The massage therapist was fantastic, and the tranquil setting over the stream with all the sounds of the rainforest was just fabulous. This will be a must do for us every time we return. Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Villa #53 has one of the nicest pools in the whole resort.

Just got to Red Frog beach today and had lunch at the newly managed Punta Lava Bar and Grill, it was awesome! Had the fish tacos, others in the group had the fish sandwiches. The new owner Kristi is great, she is super friendly and very accommodating to our requests. Menu is much more extensive then when under previous management.

I came here with my boyfriend and 2 of our friends and stayed in Villa 10. The villa was beautiful and felt more comfortable than home and had everything we needed, it was like living at home. The private pool in the backyard was perfect especially when we wanted to go swimming at night(even had an outdoor shower) We even brought out our Ipod dock. It's also convinent that the villa had a BBQ which made it easier when we wanted to cook our own food. The Villa was also very clean and you feel alot safer knowing you can lock up the doors and its just you and your guests as oppose to staying at a hotel. The staff and villa host were all very helpful. Steve the resort manager was also helpful in referring us to places when we wanted to go into town. The resort also had a night where they brought us to a club on the water called aqua lounge. The club even had spots where you could jump in for a swim and swings that went over the water! We also went ziplining which was an amazing experience, we went over the jungle and saw Monkies! and the tour guides pointed out a few iguanas on our way back to the activity centre. The guides were very easy to talk to and funny making our experience even better. The beach was BEAUTIFUL and very clean. It also was not at all crowded, often times we forgot there were a few other people there other than ourselves. This visit was perfect and we will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Go with a group and rent a villa. You will definitely get to use all the utilities to your advantage...

We booked a 3 bedroom house at Red Frog and we not disappointed. There were 8, 4 adults & 4 kids, and we had plenty of space. We really enjoyed having our own swimming pool and the two beaches were a 10 minute walk or 2 minute golf cart ride. The food on the island was pretty good, though as with any isolated area the choices were limited. We went on the zip line course which was worth every penny and also did a boat tour, which everyone enjoyed. One of the many things we loved about the resort was it's low impact on the island. The development is tastefully done leaving the jungle wild and gorgeous. The animals were in abundance also - though you have to go off the beaten track to discover them. We will definitely be coming back to Red Frog.

Room Tip: All the villas are lovely - I don't think you could go wrong.

Red Frog Beach Resort is unique in offering villas that are 5 star luxury in a rain forest! We stayed a week and plan on coming back very soon! The villas are spacious and finely appointed, each with a private pool! Golf cart, Internet and satellite ...just to mention a few!
By far the most beautiful and secluded beaches we have ever seen. SPECTACULAR!!!!
If you need to get away from it all, you will not have to try hard at all at Red Frog Beach!

I had a great time here. The villas were as nice as everyone says they are. I stayed in a villa at the top of the island and saw two monkeys right out my balcony and watched them play for an hour. The zipline was incredible and the guides were fun and very professional. I did a catamaran tour and it was spectacular; great snorkeling and the captain knew all about the island history and other things to do. I wanted to do the spa but it was booked everyday.
The beaches were great and I went to a different beach everyday. Also, if you drive around the island you find these amazing lookout points that are stunning. I am a single female and I felt safe traveling here (although I think a cab driver in Panama City charged me a little too much from the hotel to Albrook airport).
I would recommend this place if you want a nice place to stay with great beaches and a lot of lush surroundings.
I thought I would see construction but I only noticed some bumpy roads that kind of made it fun to ride around on my golf cart. Food was fine. Villa host actually grew up on the island and they were great. It was fun, I will come back.

Room Tip: pay extra to stay here than in Bocas town - felt safer and the beach is close

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

Friends and I stayed here in August and we had mixed reviews. The villas are spectacular - new, luxurious, spacious, and most with great views. They had all the creature comforts like AC, satellite TV, hot water, nice kitchens, and I believe all the villas had their own pools. The beach on the property is the famous Red Frog Beach, which lives up to the hype and is beautiful.

Unfortunately the service from the staff there was so bad it was almost non-existent. The check in at the docks took about 10-15 minutes as we waited for golf carts, then on the drive up the hill to our villa one of the golf carts died on us. After checking into the villa we drove down to the beach and discovered - on a downhill gravel road no less - that the brakes on the golf cart didn't really work so we had to coast around turns and hope nothing was in the way. The service at the bar/restaurant by the beach was pretty awful, and the food wasn't much better. Besides our group there was just one father/son eating dinner, but they staff acted like we were bothering them. The one bartender would serve one of our group a drink then turn her back for 2-3 minutes, then come back and serve someone else. One of us ordered alfredo pasta with seafood and was handed a plate of rice & beans with shrimp. Finally, on the way back up to our villas after dinner another golf cart died and no one at the restaurant offered to help, much less apologize.

It's a beautiful property and the master plan for the island is a great idea, but until they actually put some effort into their service I'd be careful about staying here. You are basically on your own there, which isn't always a bad thing, but you are on an island so you can't run out and buy food or eat at other restaurants so you depend on them.

Chris:

Thanks for your review and glad you found the villas and the beaches nice. We are sorry for the service - we will do better! We want our guests to have an experience of a lifetime at Red Frog Beach. We have added to our staff this summer and we are working as a team to make sure everyone understands that our guests are #1. Visiting this island should be a special experience and we want each and every guest to feel cared for.

Thanks again for coming. We hope you will come back and visit the new waterfall spa opening soon and the private beach club on turtle beach.
