“Wonderful time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2009

My husband and I stayed at Play Mango had a wonderful time. Nick and Joy were great hosts. Cathy who takes care of the kitchen is a good host and a very good cook. They help you with ideas of things to do and how to get there. The resort is a short taxi ride out of town, witch makes it quiet and a relaxing place to stay.

We are glad that we choose the Playa Mango for our last trip to Bocas in Jan. My wife and I had a very kicked back, relaxing time. Could barely keep track of time and we almost forgot to leave! The pool is a huge plus, crystal clear and right next to the ocean. Our room had a balcony looking over the ocean just a few steps away. Staff were super friendly and helped us plan several fun trips. Snorkeling trips (we did 2) were awesome! We spent a lot of time talking with fellow travelers at the restaurant and we made some great friends. This was a great change from our last stay in the heart of town (fun but loud!) We both felt the hotel was a good value at $99 a night. We had payed more and got a lot less when we stayed in town. We plan to return next year!

We have stayed at the Playa Mango twice and plan to go back. Its perfect for our family. Far enough from town to be very peaceful, nice pool for our daughter and a quick trip to town by taxi. Lots of friendly people too!

My Husband and I live in Costa Rica and travel to Bocas every 3 months or so and have stayed in many hotels. Playa Mango is simply the best. This resort offers you everything you could ever want, exploring prestine beaches, kayaking to the reefs or just that romantic getaway you have long been waiting for!

From the time you arrive you are treated like family. The Management and Staff go above and beyond to ensure your stay is the perfect one. The food and drinks are great and their pizza "Muy Bueno"!

The hotel Staff can arrange tours for every activity available as well as professional transportation to any island destination in bocas. You will find Playa Mango to be your own tropical paradise!

We are looking forward to our next trip!

On a trip to this paradise island with some friends in late Fall we stayed at Playa Mango, a quit, quaint, little resort just a short boat ride across the bay from Bocas Town. Like any great host Deborah went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable but was in no way overbearing. It had the nuanced feel of an upscale bed and breakfast. We researched all the local accommodations and discovered that it had access to town and all the water sports you would want but far away enough away to set out on your own adventure (Ever see Man vs. Wild, featuring this part of Panama?) We looked into staying at the La Corolina, which has very similar accommodations, but learned that because of its location water taxis do not like to travel out there making it very difficult or impossible to get around, unlike Play Mango where a taxi, fishing charter or dive company will pick you up right at their dock.

We stayed at Playa Mango the first night we arrived in Bocas. As we had been travelling for a while we wanted something nice for the first night, and thought that for 132 $ (thats the total when the tax is included) we would have a good place to sleep. We couldn´t have been more wrong. The place is soooo not worth it. Its ridiculous. A 132 $ will take you a long way in Bocas, and I have no idea how they can charge so much with what they have to offer and still be in business. The hotel is as uncharming as they come, the rooms have dirty bedlinen, the towels are thin and uncomfortable, its smells really bad, and overall the rooms are old and of poor quality. And the price doesn´t even include breakfast. There wasn´t a lot of guests there, so maybe people have figured out that you could stay on a hotel twice as nice for half the price on any other place in Bocas. We checked in at another hotel the day after, 50 $ a night including tax, on the ocean, beautiful place. So consider yourself warned, that place does not deserve your money.

Sorry you had such a terrible experience. First let me say the resort is only 4 years old (hardly old by any standard), the bedlinens are washed everyother day had you stayed more than one night or after each guest check out. Yes, maybe the towels are not as plush as you may be use to, but you did have clean dry towels.
As most people who know a little about the Bocas area, the water comes from a fresh water lagoon. There are many factors to how clean the water comes to EVERYONE here on the island.
Did it occur to you that maybe we just didn't have as many bookings for the same week you were here? and possibly the quiet location outside of town?
Guess there are those who are easier to please than others, and those who are never pleased no matter what.
Happy that you did find some place more suitable to your liking for you the remainder of your stay.

We just returned from 2 weeks at Playa Mango. Our second stay. Loved it. Far enough away from town to chill when we wanted and close enough to be there by boat in 5 minutes. The pool is a rarity in Bocas and it is kept very clean. The staff are wonderful. If you need something it is taken care of. They cooked up hors douerves and a cake for my birthday party without anyone asking. They also cooked up some fresh fish that friends caught. The rooms are spacious and clean. They also have tours, kayaks and a flying boat that my son said was a great ride.
