Bocas del Toro is not for the fussy or pampered. It is a laid back, out-of-the-way place that is equally tolerant of the backpacker and the senior citizen on vacation. For now, Hotel Bocas Del Toro is as good as there is in Bocas Town. No matter that you would not pay their rates for the same accommodations in your home town. Their location is as good as they say it is, and most of their competition is just not as good as they are. It is supply and demand.
They have a good sense of what a waterfront view is worth, and they charge accordingly. Be aware that the lovely waterfront balconies also overlook the outdoor restaurant. On weekends, that means the late guest will be entertaining you. Also, be aware that the hotel is of wood construction. If quaint bothers you, this one won't do. Take a higher room if you have the choice, as wooden hotels tend to be noisy.
The island had not gotten the usual amount of rain when we were there, and the local water supply had run dry. The hotel furnished bottled water, but there were times when no one in town had running water. Check that before making your plans.
Whatever you decide about the facility, you will have no complaint about the hotel staff. It is run hands-on by the owner, and every single person you deal with will be polite and helpful. Restaurant service was slow when we were there, but remember: you are in the Caribbean. You are on island standard time.
