“Loved this laid-back B & B”

Ditto all the positive comments in the previous reviews. The rooms at Cocomo have a simple charm, the breakfast (juice, fruit, cereal, breads, great coffee and made-to-order omelettes) was delicious and the waterfront deck is a definite plus! The view from the deck at sunrise on our last day was beautiful and serene. I wish I would have gotten up early every morning to enjoy it. Meeting other travellers is one of the best things about staying in a B&B. Hanging out on the split-level deck at Cocomo with the other guests (and Doug) was a nice way to spend an overcast morning waiting for the clouds to part, enjoying beers after a day of snorkeling or hanging out in the evening after a night in town. If you do not feel like socializing, it is still a perfect place to read a book , listen to your iPod or snooze in one of the hammocks lulled by the sound of the waves lapping gently under the deck. It is close enough to everything so you can enjoy a leisurly stroll to any restaurant in town and it is only a few blocks from MondoTaitu's bar. Doug referred us to a wonderful guide who took us out for a fantastic day of snorkeling and visiting several other nearby islends. OK, the towels are not fluffy egyptian cotton and the walls are a little thin, but you will enjoy your stay here so much, these things will not really matter. If you like a relaxed, homey, laid-back island vibe then Cocomo on the Sea is definitely the place for you.

    • Disliked — one afternoon the neighbor blasted his music. It was irritating but Doug took care if it quickly

“Cottage comfort over the sea”

Cocomo on the Sea

Aug 23, 2008

In a town rife with cheap and scrappy accommodations, this is a charming little secret located just at the edge of town. 4 simple rooms lovingly decorated like an old summer cottage is both totally cozy and comfortable. The back porch has plenty of both covered and uncovered space, and the breakfasts are perfectly acceptable with a few basics and a limited menu to choose from for hot orders. The garden is lovely and after seeing the town itself, which leaves much to be desired, it was a relief to see these accommodations located a tad outside of the central district. The town being incredibly small, this mean a 5 or 10 minute walk.
The once downside is that unfortunately the walls are incredibly thin and a loud neighbor could make for a terrible situation. Otherwise, a big endorsement for Cocomo!

“Super Cute and Great Service”

Cocomo on the Sea

Apr 4, 2008

We had a great experience at this hotel - it is right on the water, and in easy walking distance of everything in Bocas Town. The rooms were clean and pleasant, and an excellent breakfast is provided every morning. The porch has a hammock and comfortable chairs to relax in, and we made use of the free kayaks available. The only drawback is that the walls are thin and you can hear the other guests eating and talking in the morning - sleeping in can be tough if you are a light sleeper and the other guests get up early.

We spent two nights at Cocomo on the Sea during Easter week and loved it. We'd tried to get a reservation for three nights but it was only available for two, and I'm so glad we spent two nights here instead of three somewhere else - it was great.

Doug, the owner, sets a very comfortable and laid-back tone and his staff are all great. He can arrange day trips with reputable boatmen and give you tips about things to do in Bocas.

Our room was cheery and the bed was comfortable. There is AC and a ceiling fan and the bathroom was functional and clean (and always well-stocked with towels, which we appreciated). The real selling point of this place, though, is the public areas. Breakfast is served at a big table on the deck and includes fresh fruit, cereal, and coffee (which we were told was grown on Doug's coffee plantation near Boquete!), and you can order things like omelettes and pancakes.

There is a fridge in the hallway stocked with water, pop, and beer, all on the honor system.

We met all of the other guests as people started to gather on the deck with a beer at sunset. It was a great way to get tips on the area and one of the best parts of our stay.

If I went back to Bocas I wouldn't stay anywhere else - this place is great.
