5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2012

Nice room (private) clean and an awesome lounge area on the water. Fun bar staff and excellent swimming off the dock. The A/C was a treat after travelling. Very safe, Very clean, excellent malibu rum and pineapple juice!

Had a good time, nice social place where you can swim off the dock, chill in a hammock, lie in a tube in the water and watch the world go by. There is a bar and restaurant but there is also a kitchen. It's not got enough utensils but was great to have access to. There is a good laundry down the road and a great cheap rotisserie chicken place around the corner! We had a double room with aircon upstairs, small but comfy. All bathrooms are shared and kept very clean. Coffee is provided free in the morning. We arrived really early in the morning and they were very welcoming. You can get picked up directly from the dock for boat trips and water taxis. Friendly staff. You pay each morning that you stay on and leave a refundable deposit for the room key. Good wifi and a pc. We booked our shuttle to Costa Rica at the reception. It all worked really well. Would stay here again.

We stayed in the dorm and had a wonderful time. The common areas are very nice and internet is fast. The rooms were clean and each had their own fridge which was a nice perk. The A/C was cold and the staff helpful. The kitchen was well stocked and spacious.

the restaurant attached to the hostel was a bit expensive with their regular menu, and the couple of things we got off the menu were not worth the price. However, they have daily deals which were good. (taco tuesdays etc...)

Room Tip: For a couple the double bed is a best deal at $20 for the bed ($10 each).

My girlfriend and I were on a search for properties near Bocas del Toro, which required a couple weeks on Isla Colon. Casa Verde is hands-down the best spot to set camp in Bocas Town! Two weeks at CV provided the beautiful setting of a back dock overlooking the ocean, great food w/daily specials, and turned out to be a great place to network and meet fellow travelers and expats.

The staff was more than helpful; they provided any information possible on tours and local goings-on, as well as making us feel 100% welcome for the entire stay. We truly felt like family after our stay, and the owner and staff even got a cake a threw a surprise party when they found out my birthday fell on one of the days we were staying there! Although I'm not one to enjoy surprises, this was truly a pleasant one, and my thanks goes out to Chester (owner) and his staff!

Thanks for the long, strange, and awesome trip everyone!

Room Tip: Choice of private rooms and dorms - all with airconditioning - take your pick!

The location is good. The price was good. It is a very rustic house that blends in with the community. The staff were available for assistance. Everyone was friendly. It is a good place to meet people. The bathrooms were dirty. There were not that many bathrooms, so i do not understand why it was so difficult to keep them clean. The restaurant was average with good choices and prices. It is noisey at night which is to be expected. I would recommend this hostel for those on a budget.

I ususally do not write a review if it is negative. I think it is to be expected that your room and surrounding (bathroom and showers) should be clean. The floors in my dorm room was grossly dirty. There was only one bathroom to use because they had not bothered with replacing a lightbulb in the second one. You have to wash your face and brush your teeth outside next to the bar. Gross!

I was not given a tour, so I had no idea where the kitchen was or if it exsisted till the next day when I discovered it by accident. You have to pay $5 for a lock box in your dorm room. You have to pay $5 deposit on a key. All total for 1 night in this place for a dorm was $20 for A DORM. Give me a break! I moved to another hostel the next morning.

Decent Wi-fi is the only thing I can say good.

Thank you for your review. I will begin by apologizing for the fact that you did not receive a tour upon arrival, I have spoken with all of our reception staff and all guests should always be given a tour when they check in. Had you been shown around you would have known that we have an additional, more private bathroom and shower on the upper level where you can brush your teeth and wash your face in private if you were uncomfortable using the downstairs sink, which most people are not. I also apologize that the light bulb was not replaced but if you notice a problem like a burnt out bulb, please let a staff member know so that we can solve the issue! Our staff genuinely cares about you and your quality of stay but we cannot fix problems such as burnt out bulbs in an efficient manner if they have not been brought to our attention. Finally, did you get your deposits back when you left? The key deposits are all refundable when you return your keys so the price for the room is $12.50, not $20. We don't do key deposits to inconvenience our guests, we do it because we have learned from experience that many guests forget to return their keys when they leave and they are quite expensive to replace. Again, thank you for your input as it will help us to become a better hostel for all types of guests.
