“Excellent snorkeling, spear-fishing, tour guide”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2011

My wife and I spent two great days of our honeymoon with Stan exploring Bocas del Toro. Stan brought us to a remote reef that was full of fish, great for spear-fishing and fly fishing. We also explored a beautiful canal. He is patient and took the time to teach us how to spear-fish, packed the cooler and was fun to be with. Lastly he is punctual and communicated effectively through email prior to the trip.

The facility and the owners are terrific, they were attentive and willing to customize our trip, the town is fascinating and the restuarants and food terrific and very affordable, the accomidations were attractive and very large, with a wonderful porch to monkey and bird watch, The surroundings were beautiful and very tropical. We had monkeys all around the cabannas for two days and got wonderful pictures and videos. The parrots flew in in the evening and the unspoiled property was a wonderful backdrop for bird watching. Love being up on the hill and had terrific views of the water everywhere. Kristie and Stan cook great meals and gave us great tips as to restuarants for dinner. The water as you can imagine is beautiful and just the perfect temperature. It was the trip not of a life time, and Stan and Kristie were very committed to making it the best trip ever.

Room Tip: Both cabannas are the same and each is large and accommedating, very clean and pretty with a wonderf...

We experienced a week of the local flavor in Bocas at Island Path. Kristi and Stan were the best. Snorkeling on a couple different reefs, AMAZING, spearfishing (got our own flounder, but Stan got the rest while showing us the ropes. Lunch at the most amazing place about 25 minutes by boatride. Stan took John fishing for Snook up an old canal that John described as "simply gorgeous" and even communicated with a true native of the area. The cabannas were extremely comfortable and on que (as we joked) the monkeys arrived for the afternoon just a few feet from the cabanna deck. Kristi arranged a botanical tour (a nice group of 6, so very personal) at a local resident and that was an experience (sloth in the tree) not to mention the biggest variety of tropical plants from all over the world. Truly the most unique trip we have made and hope to get back before too long.

Room Tip: two cabannas, and either is wonderful

After several prompt and professional emails, my husband and I decided on Island Path as a part of our tour of Panama. We were greeted at the airport by Stan and given a quick tour of Bocas Town on the way to the Cabanas of Island Path. The cabins are well appointed, very private, have plenty of closet space (enough for your boards), include hammocks on the large balcony overlooking lush jungle and a clean bathroom with fresh, drinkable water. Just a few minutes or a $3 cab ride from town, the cabanas are a quiet place to sleep surrounded by the jungle sounds. Although the rooms are lovely, they are not the highlight of this property.

Stan and Kristi are the most gracious hosts. We felt as though we were staying with long time friends from home. These are the kind of people you want to sit and enjoy a cold beer with...or three or four! For my surfing husband, Stan's knowledge of all the local, rarely surfed breaks was a real treat. He took us out on his boat for most of a day and showed us all the spots that he has found over the years. The stories and knowledge this man has of this are incomparable. Even though there were no real swells when we were there, Stan made sure we got in the water and that we found SOMETHING to surf! On non-surfing days, our hosts gave us rides into town and even provided assistance finding a water taxi for other island excursions. They made sure we were taken care of.

Each morning we were greeted with fresh fruit, hot coffee, toasts and yogurts. Kristi is not only a warm, welcoming host, but an incredible cook. We enjoyed home made pizzas, lobster and rice among other delicacies for lunch and snacks. We are definitely coming back to Island Path....Hopefully sooner than later.

Room Tip: There are only two cabanas, keeping it private and tranquillo...both are lovely.

After several trips to Central America, I can definitely say that Island Path is our favorite place to stay. Stan & Kristi definitely got it right when they built Island Path. The just out of town location on the hill is perfect for catching cool breezes, watching birds and even observing the local troop of howler monkeys. Island Path is close to all of the conveniences of town like El Refugio and the Sushi & Martini bar.
We started every day with a great breakfast of coffee and fresh fruit and johnny cakes and Stan and Kristi helped us make the most of our time in Bocas, pointing out the best beaches and island locales.
The cabanas are well thought out with plenty of room and they stay cool with AC and ceiling fans. The hammocks are delightful!
Even if you aren't a surfer (and we aren't) be sure to schedule one of Stan's boat tours. The experience, which included snorkeling, an on the water happy hour stop, fishing and observing locals lobstering in dugout canoes was incomparable!
We will be sure to be back.

Clean, comfortable cabanas with fans and air conditioning! We are not surfers, but Island Path provided all that we needed and much more. Stan and Kristi are wonderful hosts who were quick to provide an experience customized for our needs. The "Jungle Breakfasts" of fresh fruit, juice, yogurt, and Johnny Cakes blended well with the delightful conversation each morning - and Kristi was very attentive of my need for coffee! The balcony overlooking the rain forest provided incredible sights and sounds, seemingly far away from the bustle of Bocas Town. Stan provided a daily ride to town where we could shop or have dinner, and it was cheap and easy to get a taxi or "collectivo" back to the cabanas whenever we were ready. We even figured out how to catch the bus to the other end of the island right from our front door! This was an experience I hope to repeat soon, and there is no doubt that I will again stay at Island Path.

Room Tip: There are two similar cabanas sharing the same incredible view in a quiet neighborhood.

If you're looking to get the most of Bocas while surfing the sickest surf breaks, I highly recommend Island Path, hands down! As soon as we got off our water taxi, Stan came to pick us up and took care of us, giving us the ins and outs of Bocas and all of Panama. The Island Path lodge was built by Stan and one of the coolest lodges there, a spacious airconditioned room surrounded by the jungle yet only 2 1/2 miles away from Bocas Town. It's the perfect location to be, away from the craziness of the town while in the remoteness of the jungle. His place is about a mile from the mother of all trees, which you must check out, a huge tree that looks something straight out of Avatar!! And accommodations come with fresh, delicious breakfast made by Kristi, Stan's wife. Both are amazing people and will take care of you from day 1.

And if you're looking to surf or fish.. wow, I can go on and on about how awesome the excursions were and you will not be disappointed. He gives you an all day personalized boat tour, showing you around the island and boating to all the major breaks for your specific level. I went with a friend who was a beginner, while I was an intermediate surfer and he catered to both our needs, finding a surf-able spot for both of us.. or one can provide beach relaxation and snorkeling, while you catch your multiple waves. You will have a awesome time! Favorite spot was Tiger Tails and Playa Larga, both reef breaks and super fun... at Playa Larga, I almost caught my first barrel! Super hollow, thick and swell consistency on point! And the best part about it was that we were the only ones there!

Stan not only provides you with the best surf tour but provides you with a lot of detailed information that you won't find anywhere, not in a guidebook, but all from personal experience and world wide traveling wisdom. Stan rocks and will take care of you from day 1. I highly recommend Island Path. Surfffffff Bocassss!!!!
