My husband and I stayed at Punta Caracol for 6nights in lead up to Christmas 2013. Overall we really enjoyed ourselves and we felt VERY relaxed leaving. If I were to break it down, below are our pro's and con's:
The staff are very friendly and accomodating, we got on best with Mario a young guy who had just started working at the resort. We were getting a bit of cabin fever so we arranged to head into Bocas one night, he showed us the best places to go and arranged a taxi boat home for us (which wasn't cheap $60 one way! but it was worth it).
The food is good for Panama, even though there was a set menu for the evening meals they were happy to accomodate any changes.
The wifi was down and we did not have phone signal, usually this would be a con but actually I felt it really helped me relax and completley shut off from the outside world.
The huts are very clean and you do feel quite private when relaxing on your little dock.
Kayaking and snorkel equipment is provided free of charge.
For the amount of money you spend to stay here we really felt that more alcoholic drinks should be included and that soft drinks should be free. I know it's not an all inclusive resort but they could offer at least one complimentary alcoholic drink a day, as lets be honest it's not going to put a burden on their profit margins!
The day trips were limited and over priced for what you got, we were lucky on one of our day trips a couple from Miami came on the boat with us and they could speak Spainish so we got a few extra stops included.
The wildlife and coral is disappointing, there are quite a lot of fish and dolphins but we expected more.
