“Amazing experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

We were blown away by this place. After reading the reviews here we were a little worried that we overpaid, but it was worth every penny.

This was top shelf service, something hard to find in Central America. The staff was top notch, the food was excellent. The place itself is a true spectacle...tourist boats would slow down to allow people to take pictures of this amazing place. There are only 9 cabanas to rent, so you get the VIP treatment from the staff along with not having to run into other guests.

My wife's birthday was over the weekend we stayed. We told no one but the boat driver who took us to the resort. On the night of her birthday they brought out a cake and sang to her. Unforgettable experience...highly recommended.

Our second trip to Punta Caracol Acqua Lodge even topped our first. From the time that you step off of the water taxi and onto the decking of Punta Caracol your mouth hangs open. It is the most relaxing, tranquil location. I brought my sister for her Birthday celebration last February and we returned with her husband this year for 6 days. The Staff is truly outstanding from Reception thank you Pilar and Sissi organizing any excursions you might want to do to Stephanie in the Dining room who along with an amazing staff makes every meal so pleasurable. The food is outstanding, The accommodations which we stayed in the Master Suite this year is so tastefully decorated, clean and Location, Location, Location you step off of your personal deck into the biggest fish bowl of clear caribbean water with an abundance of fish. Will be back for sure again Next Year.

Room Tip: All of the Suites are perfect but the Master is amazing if you need more bedding

The photos of Punta Caracol don't lie. This is a magnificent spot - the water is blue and clear,
the sunsets are amazing. We even saw a dolphin, every so briefly, right in front of our cabin. 5-stars for location. But for the price the hotel leaves a lot to be desired.
Breakfast - unless you are an egg eater, will leave you wondering if there isn't anything better than cocoa puffs available in Panama. The fruit offering was large but after two days, boring.
Tea time would leave the British wishing they hadn't invented it. Vanilla Oreos, Bugles and
Doritos. Really, at this price? Dinners were fine, but again, is fine enough at this price.
The owners and staff are wonderful - the concept of an eco friendly hotel inviting. But it would be so easy to make this a multi star hotel with a small investment in the food, a pro chef, or even a visit from a nutritionist who could match care for the environment with care for the guests health.
With all this in mind, its a beautiful stop over for two days - max - while exploring this part of Panama.

Room Tip: all of the rooms are beautifully located, the higher numbers are larger, and the last one the quiete...

It was pure heaven on earth: the cabin, the food, the staff. Everything was a dream. I love this place!
The only down side was the weather, if it rains you are stuck in the cabin and there is not much to do, but if not, you have your own kayak in your back patio, your privacy and excellent offer of excursions and day trips.

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon on July 2012. It is an adventure to get to but well worth the cab and boat ride. The cottages are built on top of dead corral reef right on the water. Nothing compares to watching the sunset right on the deck of the beautiful cottage surrounded by crystal clear water. The staff is simply amazing, a couple of tips be sure to ask for Alex if you decide to do any of the tours via the hotel. Also be sure to try the bartenders special mojito.

Please note if you are looking to party late night this is not the place for you as the lodge is not accessible by any means other than boat. Also as all the food comes from the maim island the restaurant selection is very limited although the island of bocas del Toro has a great array of restaurants

We spent our August 2011 honeymoon here.

Pros: My husband and I visited the Lodge on the last and final leg of our two week honeymoon/backpack through Costa Rica/ Panama. We were excited to finally “relax” for four days. We thought the lodge was beautiful...we had no problem getting to the lodge the staff was very friendly, willing to go out of there way to accommodate to our needs. One of the employees even went as far as to bring our dirty laundry into town and wash it for us (a tip and payment was expected of course). The first day we were there we went kayaking which was beautiful...we went down a river/canal that was gorgeous, after that we went snorkeling and a huge sting ray swam underneath us. Dolphins were viewable from our deck and we thought the sunsets were amazing...it thundered and we had some wind/light rain one night which made it really beautiful. All in all it was relaxing and beautiful. If you are going to the lodge expecting lots of excitement you’ll be disappointed it is definitely a place to relax. Boats bring you into Bocas and other places to find adventure...but only at certain times throughout the day.

Cons:
We thought that for the price and the splurge we had made that some things would have been more “up scale” - we understand we were in Panama and that nature was the “vibe” as well as part of the culture...however, it was so hot and humid that my husband and I could not even sleep upstairs in our bed....the ceiling fan was tiny and it did nothing for the heat...we had to sleep on the tiny little couches/lounge benches in the lower level of the lodge....just to get some breeze/fresh air at night and we left our porch doors open...these couches were small and uncomfortable and not meant for sleeping on but we had no choice...

The bathrooms were small, moldy smelling and cramped...and also very dark...we had a hard time using it at night.

The service was a bit poor at lunch and dinner...the music that was played at times was a bit “un-relaxing” younger employees made it a point to play hip/hop and rap music which took away from the relaxing peaceful setting that you were trying to enjoy....

I know this was unavoidable but next door to our bungalow they were working on another room...pounding nails and using other machinery...I understand this wasn’t something we could help..they have to upkeep the place...but it was just unfortunate because again it was a distraction and kept me from using our deck for reading...perhaps we could have gotten a discount since they knew this was the case?

Other than the handful of things we stated above...it was beautiful, relaxing and has a lot of potential...I would definitely go back, just not for the price they are asking.

Room Tip: Rooms farthest away from the main dining area would be best for tranquility and quietness.
