“Small hotel at great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

Arrived late on 22 Aug 2012 and was greeted hospitably by Mr. Mao, the front desk officer. The hotel is actually a small hotel with 8 floors, which 1st floor is for reception, and 8th floor is for breakfast. I booked for a family quad facing the lake which offered a very beautiful view of Sun Moon Lake. This hotel is right in front of Ita Thao (read : Yita Tsao) pier. Since this is a small property, it will be very much advisable to call the hotel if you were to arrive later at night so they would wait. If you are lost, just get to the location of Ita Thao pier, or simply make a call to Hu Yue B&B, as you may not find anybody to ask as Sun Moon Lake is a very sleepy town.

The staffs are very hospitable, and the hotel itself is very clean. The room was not carpeted, which is good for people with allergy (ceramic floor). From the look, the facility seemed to be a new one. Family quad was facilitated with 2 king-size beds, flat screen TV, refrigerator, and of course; air-conditioned. The toilet was quite complete, equipped with shower and rain shower (with liquid soap and shampoo in the shower room), bath tub, hand basin, and clean towels. Amenities were given in full; toothbrushes, combs, shaving kits, hair dryer.

The most beautiful part of this hotel was great view when you book lake view room. You could see the great view at night, sun rise and in the morning. There is balcony right outside the room where you could enjoy cold beer and snack with the view of the lake at night. Safety of the balcony was quite good, so you could have peace of mind if you bring along kids.

We were given free boat ride ticket from the hotel. Riding a boat to cruise the lake was also convenient as pier was just a stone-throw away, making it also great to walk around the pier prior to breakfast. If you would like to have more fun, just bring along a piece of bread to feed the fishes, but stand aside as the fishes were still not used to being nearby to human.

Breakfast were provided and the food were not luxurious, but delicious. Breakfast were provided 7-9.30 am, so please ensure not to miss the hour. Enjoying breakfast at the bench facing the lake would be recommended.

Some points for improvement : all the information are provided in traditional Chinese character, including AC control panel, TV remote and light control panel. Make sure that you would ask the information on how to operate it from the front desk officer if you don't read Chinese. The refrigerator was not plugged-in when we arrive, most probably to conserve energy.
Since I did not come on week-end, I could not comment on the information about being noisy early morning due to crowds going to the pier on weekend.

Basically, I would say that the hotel was a small fine hotel to be and recommended to stay.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2012

Came to this hotel in April, and it was recently opened, everything looks new. It is right by the lake, so if you get a lake view room, dinning on the deck is so much better than most restaurants in the area. So it was quite pleasant.

However, there are quite a lot of problems which made the experience a lot worse very soon. Firstly, the stool in the toilet is leaking, not a lot, but just enough the ruin your experience given this is such a new hotel. Then the bathtub is not very clean, and the sink is too small given the size of the room and the bath area. I think they should have designed the bathroom a lot better.

The wrost part is that the air conditioning is not working. I went at April time, and yet it is already pretty warm in the room. The air conditioning is not working (given the hotel is new, I can only assume that the hotel did not turn it on to save cost considering it is only April) and it is so much cooler outside such that I had to leave the deck door open to cool down the room. Remeber how nice the deck is that is right next to the lake? Now you have no privacy because so many people walking around the port area and that can see everything in the room (with the lights on, in the middle of the night). I think this is the worst part of the whole experience, couldn't sleep the whole night.

Next morning, the breakfast was quite nice too. The canteen is on the top floor, you get a great view enjoying the breakfast. The breakfast itself is not worth mentioning, but it is not packed with people (it is not a big hotel after all), so it is still quite a nice experience.
