“tidy, clean and budget hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

they provide breakfast, with a lot of vegetarian choices. nice! double bed rooms on the same side of the hotel entrance are a bit bigger, with some window view of the street, more bright, but since each room has a small window for ventilation purpose which is not noise insulating, you may hear dog barking or motor cycles in middle of night or very early in the morning. we were disturbed on the first night. but later, they were nice enough to allow us to change to another double-bed room which is on the opposite side, although is a smaller room and there is no window view at all, we found it very quiet and you can sleep well at night. the length of the bed is the usual standard length in asia, which is not long enough for a taller than usual person to sleep on. however, the bed mattress is comfortable enough to allow a comfortable sleep
attitude of hotel staff are good, especially the lady and the young guy at night shift. the owner is also nice and friendly.
room charges is quite reasonable. you can park your car in the public carpark very near to the hotel after 5pm. if not, the hotel also has their own place for you to park the car.

Room Tip: for a lake-view double bed room, it costs a bit higher due to the view, but be mindful that you may...

The hotel is dated, must have been here for a long time. It is quite clean. Bathroom amenities are basic. Can't flush toilet paper down. Bed is against the wall and that makes it difficult to climb in and out. Pillow is too soft and lack support.
The place is in the midst of town and so it is noisy. The so call lake view is via the window at the head of the bed.
Breakfast is local and not tasty. Selection is limited.
Don't think I will come this way again.

Very spacious and comfortable room, with nice view of the lake and live music from the pier! Great afternoon with friends and family and a nice cup of tea . We like this location better than Shui She pier, not too crowded. Small shops nearby, selling great snacks and drinks. We love the roasted wild boar crisp. The owner recommended us to cycle by the lake, as the weather was great! It was marvelous! Great experience and beautiful scenery.

The staff were very friendly and willing to give good recommendations about where to go and eat. The room was spacious with a spectacular view of the Sun Moon Lake. Breakfast selection was limited but adequate. You also had the lakeview in the breakfast room. Good to start your day!

This hotel is at the Ita Shao pier in sun moon lake and not the main Shui-She pier. We booked a minivan for the trip from Alishan to sun moon lake so getting to Cherng Yuan was relatively fuss-free. We stayed in two family rooms on level 5 and 6 of the hotel and got an unobstructed view of the lake. The moment we stepped into the room, we were wowed by the view of the lake. We also saw firework display during the night. The room was huge and there were many channels on the TV which is truly essential since the village shuts down at 8pm everynight. Miss Cherng - owner of the hotel was truly hospitable and she was able to provide us with many recommendations on where to eat, timing of the river-taxis, and the sights to visit. The hotel is just by the pier, and about 10-15 minutes walk away from the cable car station. You can purchase discounted cable car and river taxi tickets from the hotel. The room also came with a jacuzzi which was a nice touch. Although the breakfast was a small spread of congee and condiments, and bread, the hotel is situated in the middle of a street food paradise so make use of the opportunity to walk around and try the food. There is a mochi stall that is fantastic and its just to the left of the hotel. Also try the chinese bun sandwich, braised tofu-sandwich, cabbage spring roll, chicken wing stuffed with rice, and milk tea. A very good recommendation from the hotel was the Fu Yuan restuarant - one of the best chinese food we tasted during our 9-day trip around taiwan. While i recommend the cable car ride, the cultural village was nothing to shout about and was a very artificial set-up. However, I have to take one-point off because our transfer to the Taichung HSR was half an hour late and as a result, the driver drove at 140 km/h which was an experience we do not wish to repeat.

Room Tip: Choose a room on level 5 or 6 that faces the lake. Beautiful lake view.

Located at the quieter town of Itao in Sun Moon Lake, yet with the convenience of access to yummy Taiwan xiao chi, which is great.

Good location, it is as close as you can get to the lake with excellent view of the lake from the dinning area. Breakfast is more Taiwanese with offering of bread and jam.

Room is spacious but with parts of the furnishing showing signs of wear. Free wireless with ok speed at most times. For the price, I had expected a little better.

We stayed at one of the lake view family room. The room was very large, clean and comfortable with a huge bathroom and excellent air conditioner. (The only drawback for travelers who are unfamiliar with oriental restrooms in the rural is that the flush toilet did not work well. And we were told not to dump toilet paper into the toilet, but instead throw it away in the covered trash can that's sitting next to the toilet.) The hotel is situated on one of the two or three main streets in the area. There were many dinner options. In fact, the beef noodle soup next door to the hotel was quite tasty and we finished off with melon popsicle from the 24/7 convenient store. The owners, who appear to live on-site were super friendly and accommodating. The free breakfast bar was open and operating at 7 AM. The hotel website was very helpful in showing the kind of rooms available. Reservation thru Agoda very easy.

Room Tip: If traveling near the middle of April to middle of May, during the firefly season. Make sure to che...
