“Go for the executive rooms!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

Like previous reviewers, my negative comment comes from the food. It wasn't very tasty. The dinner menu slacked, with just 5 options. But the price wasn't as exorbitant as other reviewers have mentioned, I think for a bowl of beef noodle soup with the typical small sides characteristic of Chinese food and a complimentary non-alcoholic drink, you paid 400 NT. A big basket of french fries were 180NT.

To the rooms: they were awesome! The executive rooms come with a living room and a Japanese style, low table. There is a big flat screen TV and everything is managed by panels along the walls, including lights and music. The best part was the bathroom, a huge (and I mean huge) tiled jacuzzi tub plus a rainforest style shower. These rooms also come with a balcony. There are complimentary bottles of water as well as oranges and apples, too.

Location: This was our second trip to Sun Moon Lake, and yes, this hotel is a little removed from the towns. But, I think this is better. The hotel offers free bicycles and one can easily bike to the nearest town in 5 minutes to enjoy some food or tea. The other town is across the lake. When it is warmer, the hotel has a huge patio on the lake. Plus this patio extends right onto the bicycle path. This is extremely helpful as the last time we were here we couldn't easily find the path or the bicycles.

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and they offer a free shuttle. I'm not sure exactly what this service offers, but they drove some people to the town and us to the pharmacy.

Room Tip: 912 was a mountain facing room, and 901 was a lake facing room. I don't think they are entirely...

The Bad:
The hotel is not ideally located as its about 10-15 minutes walk from the area where all the food and shops are, i guess it would not be too much of a problem if the hotel food was good but it is not, the breakfast was the only edible thing and dinner was I think 750NT per person. Oh and there is no room service.
You can take one of their bikes into town (if you can get one) which makes it only 5 minutes or you can take there shuttle that runs every hour except between 11.30am and 2.30pm which is strange because thats immediately after check out.
The front desk will call you cab to go into town, but it will cost you 250NT instead of less than 100 if you could get your own. Its not that big of a deal but its the small things.
The gym is only a treadmill and a bike, literally.

The Good:
The rooms are huge and just beautiful, the bed was massive and the view from the balcony was so peaceful, see attached photos. The bath was really cool with the built inTV, be it small and hard to see. The TV in the main bedroom is large and has a reachable HDMI input and the wifi was solid (I was there in low season). Also they had a couple gaming rooms downstairs, the xbox kenetic room was closed but their Wii room was open (see photos) to play some Wii sports.
The front desk service though impersonal was very proficient and they spoke English quite well.

All in all this is a good, well managed and beautiful hotel but the location made it suitable to people who want to stay in and relax on the balcony. That would be totally fine if the food was decent, but unfortunately its not. For the money I feel you would be better off at something less classy and in town.

We booked at the last minute and only lower floor (3rd floor) available. Western style room with a living room, balcony facing the lake and also... bath tub facing the lake, too. The room is in decent size and new. Very comfortable bed. In addition, the hotel has direct bike lane access, so you can easily connect the "around the lake" bike lane. Very relaxing and romantic just having a cup of tea on the balcony!! Would love to go back again!!

Stayed in Deluxe Lake View Quad Room for 2 nights. Spacious room and comfortable beds. Clean and high-tech with remote control over lighting and equipment (e.g. TV). Separate toilet, shower area and pool. The room looks exactly the same as the pictures in the website. Breakfast spread was great and tasty. Shuttle bus service is free and run hourly to/ from Shui-she visitor centre. This is the best hotels I have stayed so far in Taiwan. Although the price is rather steep, it is value for money for similar class of hotel with great view and convenience around Sun Moon Lake. Would definitely stay here again if I visit Sun Moon Lake.

Room Tip: High Floor, deluxe lake view room.

We stayed there for 2 nights in July in a Deluxe Double View Suite. The room was liveable but not great. It had a queen and 2 single beds as advertised so it comfortably fit our family of 4. The room size was decent but the word "suite" is perhaps misleading. it was just 2 separate sleeping areas, no living area. Air conditioning was only on one side of the room, so one sleeping area had to be colder for the other side to be comfortable. The bedroom window overlook the mountain, but when you look down, it's a road with something like a junk yard right across, so not much of a view. You can see a good view of the lake only from the toilet. The room was damp all the time despite the aircon. While the bathroom is huge, it's design was such that the whole place got wet whenever someone takes a shower. The Lake View Japanese Room right across from ours looked much nicer, but a bit tight for our family.

Other than the room, the rest of the hotel was okay. Breakfast was good with decent spread. We had a dinner there and the food was great. In the mornings, there were also Dragon Beard Candy making classes, which we all took part in.

The hotel is just beside the cycling trail and bikes were freely available to guests. The helmets were almost brand new, apparently few guests use helmets. We took the bikes and rode around the lake. Took us about five hours including lunch break, photo stops, rain stops, etc. The bikes were also useful for little errants into Shui She where all the shops are. The hotel only had a few decent quaility mountain bikes that we would use to cycle around the lake. Fortunately, we were able to get for the 4 of us. I must add that good quality bikes are widely available for rent in Shui She.

Overall, a functional hotel.

Room Tip: Get a lake view room.

Went there last September. We had very good experience, the room was quite large and modern.
The bathroom is very nice although the closet was a bit cramped. They had an ofuro or Japanese style bathtub large enough for two and even installed TV in the bathroom. The room also boast had a tatami style dining and living room, with sliding door panel

Breakfast was a mix of European and Chinese style breakfast (more congee and Chinese pickkle) quite nice, I had to say.

The location is excelent, located on the bank of the Sun Moon Lake, wake up in the morning to jog down around the lake, or walk down to the pier and catch the ferry to cruise the Sun Moon Lake.

The service is very nice, checkin was fast and the stuff speaks and understand English reasonably well.

Good value for money

We have travelled around Taiwan for nearly two weeks. This hotel had a wonderful spaciousness room with excellent views of the lake but the front desk service was terrible. It lacked the smiles, cheer and over all helpfulness we have become used to throughout our stay in Taiwan. This may have been made more difficult due to the lack of English. The bikes were free to hire but need a service as we spent time putting chains back on and making sure the breaks worked. The shuttle only ran at the most inconvenient times and no allowances were made even through we were the only people onboard. We would have been happy with a smaller room and amazing service, not hard to come by in Taiwan. We would recommend staying in Itashao as it has a much nicer feel despite the seemingly unauthentic aboriginal facade.

Dear value customer

I would like to thank you very much for leaving us a comment so we can improve ourself and make ourself better

I will point out in our next meeting that our front office personnel need more smile, and we will improve our staff with more conversational English so we can better serve our overseas customers

Because of high volume of customers coming in to our hotel recently, our hotel maybe under staff at times so no staff is onsite for bike check and rental, I will make note of it and make sure the customer will have better experience next time

Our shuttle bus make round trip every hour to the bus station, and if there are more customers , we will run more frequently, we will try to meet every customers needs, but since there is only one hotel shuttle, we can only serve the the needed customers at certain time of the hour, I would like to apologize if we didnt meet your expectation

Again, thank you very much for leaving us a comment and please come and try us again next time,

thanks
