Like previous reviewers, my negative comment comes from the food. It wasn't very tasty. The dinner menu slacked, with just 5 options. But the price wasn't as exorbitant as other reviewers have mentioned, I think for a bowl of beef noodle soup with the typical small sides characteristic of Chinese food and a complimentary non-alcoholic drink, you paid 400 NT. A big basket of french fries were 180NT.
To the rooms: they were awesome! The executive rooms come with a living room and a Japanese style, low table. There is a big flat screen TV and everything is managed by panels along the walls, including lights and music. The best part was the bathroom, a huge (and I mean huge) tiled jacuzzi tub plus a rainforest style shower. These rooms also come with a balcony. There are complimentary bottles of water as well as oranges and apples, too.
Location: This was our second trip to Sun Moon Lake, and yes, this hotel is a little removed from the towns. But, I think this is better. The hotel offers free bicycles and one can easily bike to the nearest town in 5 minutes to enjoy some food or tea. The other town is across the lake. When it is warmer, the hotel has a huge patio on the lake. Plus this patio extends right onto the bicycle path. This is extremely helpful as the last time we were here we couldn't easily find the path or the bicycles.
The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and they offer a free shuttle. I'm not sure exactly what this service offers, but they drove some people to the town and us to the pharmacy.
