The enterprising young man who has set up this place richly deserves to succeed. He launched in December, 2012, with two letting rooms and a small restaurant by the lovely lagoon. We ate there after stumbling on it by chance in seeking an alternative to the restaurant at the Mangrove Gardens beach resort, half a mile away. We were shown a room at Coconut Island and it was far superior to our dingy cabin at Mangrove Gardens. The young man said he was charging 2,500 rupees (about £12.50) for a double room, believing he couldn't ask for more because he wasn't on the beach (it was about 200 yards away). As he was still feeling his way in the restaurant the choice was limited and the timing was a bit awry with the rice arriving before the soup. But none of this detracted from the excellent quality of the food and it was obvious that he was very keen to learn from any observations we had to make. He was extremely anxious to please, saying: "If you're happy, I'm happy."
