“Great Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

This is a bit away from the busy town of Tangalla, about the last place on that beach which seems to go forever. It's a smaller place, with its own part of the beach. Rooms, food, people are great and the price makes it a good value.

I actually came back to it!

We stayed for two nights and thought it was excellent value for a lovely room right on the beach. It seems quite a long way off the beaten track when you first get there, but don't worry; it's really close to a busier resort, if you want to go somewhere else for a meal / drink.

We went during the off season and sound it lovely and relaxing, but we had to go into another nearby resort, 5 mins walk down the beach for our lunch / evening meal. Breakfast was still provided though and was a lovely 'british' breakfast of eggs, toast and jams. For some reason the south of Sri Lanka doesn't seem to think tourists want Sri Lankan breakfasts! But that's a minor point.

We didn't see much of the owner, or anyone else, but there was always someone within easy reach if we wanted to order a tuk tuk, or get a recommendation for a restaurant. We had a few communication problems when asking for a vegetarian restaurant, but the owner was lovely about it and it's not like we could speak any Tamil or Sinhala!

Room Tip: Get the top room!

Thank for the lovely comments. We really appreciate of our clients feedback as it helps us to improve our service.I'm so sorry as you have to go nearby restaurants for main meals.2 months ago our chef "Chamara" left us and went to work in Seychelles. So last 2 months we didn't have qualified chef and one of our kitchen assistant was doing just breakfast.

We didn't have lot of guests in off season. So we were looking for the best replacement. Now we have found a guy and our restaurant fully functional for the season.

It was a good suggestion Sri Lankan style breakfast.I'll include that in our menu. Thanks for that.Communication always been an issue. We try our best to train our staff as much as we can.

Hopefully with the experience they will get better.

This was exactly what I was after. No cars, peaceful, beautiful beach and not expensive. If you enjoy walking on the beach for 7 hours and meeting only 1 or 2 people, this is a great place. It is very quiet, near the sea turtles. The food was very good and huge meals. I wish I was still there.

Room Tip: Great view from the top floor. Easy access to the beach with hte sand between your toes on the groun...

We were booked for two nights but only stayed one. The location is great - right on the beautiful beach. Unfortunately, that's the only good thing I have to say.

I had emailed in advance and confirmed reserving the top room. When we got there we were given the bottom room and told that a couple were having a romantic holiday there. That's exactly what my partner and I were also trying to achieve! Instead we had the bottom room with a fan only i.e. no air con.

The food was plentiful and service was prompy but the cooking itself was poorly executed. The stodgiest rice and curry of the trip (we were experts by that point!).

Another side note (and this is not a criticism of the guesthouse) is that the sea was far too rough to go in and this is apparently the case year round. (Go to Mirissa instead!).

Dear Aneurin, Thank you for the review and we are extreamly disappoint on what has happened i know its too late now perhaps if you visit next time let us make it up for you.
It was 14 of April 2012 you visited us and it was Sri Lankan New Year and public holidays for 3 days.
So i have to rely on casual staff and i was busy as well. That's how your request wasn't pass on.Still our mistake by the end of the year there will be 2 more upstair rooms ready and these kinds of mistakes won't happen again
Non of our rooms don't have AC so you didn't miss it out.Rice and curry we try to make it as home cooked which is healthier with less oil thats why you felt it different from the rest and we never received any bad comments about our food.
From December till February you can jump into the sea if you are a good swimmer and not scared of waves. The rest of the year the sea is not safe to swim. But we have a natural rock pool just in front of us. There it is safe all year. As an alternative we have the lagoon with sea-rainwater-mix.

Great place to relax. Excellent beach but was too rough at the time of our visit. Cook makes excellent food and serves super huge portions. Rooms are basic but clean and have a large private balcony.

No wifi, have to go next door to a larger resort to access wifi.
Canoes can be arranged through the manager for a ride in the lagoon .

Room Tip: The room on the top floor is the best.

Just returned from a month in Sri Lanka touring by motorbike. A second stop at Lonely Beach was an absolute must. We stayed for 3 nights and loved it. Having been before we booked the top floor room with the amazing views and it was every bit as good as we remembered it to be. We love the vast balcony area.
The food that the guys produce is excellent. Rice and curry in vast amounts, with lots of variety in the veg dishes. Fresh lobsters/jumbo prawns off the boats that morning were amazing. Service is extremely attentive and always delivered with a smile.
Marakolliya is our favourite beach despite the intimidating waves.
I have a feeling that in a few years time people might be saying "You should have been here ten years ago." Although Lonely Beach is unchanged there is a fair bit of new building going on in the area, which inevitably means more people on the beach. We like it all to ourselves!

Room Tip: Top floor obviously has the best views

We had a very lovely time at the lonely beach resort. Nice, clean and spacious room, with a big private balcony. The manager, Vijitha, is very friendly and so is the cook, who makes wonderfull curries and even spaghetti pomedori!

We can heartly recommend this place.
