“Great view of Sigiriya Rock!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2010

Stayed for two nights, Sept 6-8 2010.

Great view of the Sigiriya Rock from the swimming pool and restaurant area. It is also walking distance of about 30 min from the Rock, which is just superb, and actually climbing it was poignant.

Rooms with a bit of colonial style was nice and clean, the bathroom were a bit damp but clean as well. One of the biggest hotel in the area having 150+ rooms had been well taken care.

Buffet style meals were good, lots of choices, friendly staffs.

The staffs were all helpful. The bellboy even brought as a fruit basket after us telling him that we were on our honeymoon, and also decorated our bed with flowers the next day. They were always willing to help, all the staffs were polite.

I would say this hotel is a good choice :)

the hotels in this area are more expensive than elsewhere. The food was wonderful. I loved getting up early in teh morning and wandering around the grounds looking and listening to the birds ... finding the farm and looking at their vegetables and animals .... we even stumbled across a friendly member of staff who gave us a night tour of the animals which was great fun. There is a lovely swimming pool with great views of the rock. Our driver and guide were also looked after well.

We stayed a couple of nights at the Sigiriya Village Hotel (do not mix with Sigiriya Hotel). The groungs are amazing, one feels in the middle of a manicured jungle. Monkeys playing on and under the trees, lush vegetation all around and the superb view of the Rock!
The roms are not too fancy but they are comfortable and serve the purpose.
Food is excellent and abundant, the staff friendly and helpful.
Be sure to climb the Rock as early in the morning as possible, otherwise it gets too hot and the climb is not easy. But it is a MUST!

We were here for 3 nights as part of a tour with Mercury - yes the hotel is basic but the bungalows are spacious and clean, the area is quiet, loads of wildlfe - monkeys, mongoose, iguanas etc - all over the place. The staff are really helpfull and so polite.
It was our anniversay whilst we were there and the chefs presented us with a huge cake at the end of dinner - yum!!!
The swimming pool, although small was perfect to relax at the end of the day with Sigiriyia rock in the background.
Food was also very good even though it was buffet - we went for local Sri Lankan cuisine each meal and it was yumm!
We would definatly consider coming back there again!!

We stayed here for one night and were in the hotel at the same time as a business seminar, which dominated the restaurant and pool areas. There was a lot of noise from the seminar and this disrupted our stay. The rooms were fine, if a bit jaded. To be fair, the duty manager did his best to help us with the noise disruption but beyond this we were not that impressed with this place and it felt a bit over-priced, suitable for large groups rather than independent travellers.

Recently we stayed on an AI package for 3 days (2 nights) and included a superior room. Rooms are relatively pleasing and well designed. As an ecofriendly hotel the hotel does compost and has a wastewater treatment plant. Moreover, they use CFL bulbs everywhere. The hotel has a nice view of the Sigiriya rock. Meals all buffet and good. However, efficiency of staff is somewhat disappointing. Since we were on an AI package we were entitled to receive evening snacks which were got on day 1, but not day 2 (despite some calls). Also it was noted that there were very few staff to attend to the needs of the guests. This needs to be improved.
