“Chalet Style Accomodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2014

We continued our Archers Coach tour by spending two nights at the Sigiriya Village Hotel. Check-in, Reception Area, Room, services all excellent.
The hotel is ideally placed for a visit to the Lion's Rock.
We ate in the buffet style restaurant which was plentiful with an amazing choice of local and International dishes.
This was a very quiet hotel with good quality, clean chalets and we slept well.
The breakfast was a mixture of Sri Lankan and European food and was all well presented and in copious measures. This hotel created a good example of Sri Lankan food and hospitality. Try their speciality cocktail, Kassapa's Surprise, it's beautiful!

Room Tip: Try to get a chalet near to reception as the lighting on the paths is not good (or take a torch with...

Hotel set in grounds with mature trees and water features, with accommodation in semi-detached bungalows. Restaurant has amazing view of Sigirya Rock, and serves food buffet style with western and Sri Lankan dishes available. Excellent for bird-watchers with many species seen in the grounds including Hornbills, Barbets and Pittas.

Room Tip: Rooms furthest from Reception are quietest, if you don`t mind the walk.

We had bungalow 199. As you opened the door you could smell fresh paint. The room and bathroom were spotless, well furnished and very comfortable. We were offered this hotel by Elephant Island for 3 nights as part of our tour and very highly delighted with this choice.
We arrived at night in the rain and were given an extremely warm welcome by the staff. The whole Sigiriya area is like a tropical rain forest with its own unique eco system. Your room comes complete with its own large umbrella.
To be very honest climbing the Rock Fortress needs to be done early in the day, unless you are super fit. We did it in the rain and loved every minute. The climb to the paws is hard work and to go to the top is not for the faint hearted. Luckily the sun came out so we could enjoy the view. Well worth the effort.
The Golden Cave Temple is a must. Again its fairly high and there a lots of steps to climb I also would recommend doing this in the morning.
Basically if you enjoy nature and good food the village is an ideal place to stay, especially when the sun decides to shine. To be honest I loved the food and for me it was the best tasting restaurant I have ever eaten in. I would also go as far to say the service we received was close to 5*.
You have probably guessed by now we were very happy customers who enjoyed our stay in this very unique location.

Room Tip: Travel Kettle, Mosquito repellant and a torch if you don't have one on your mobile.

After the good reviews that we had read, this was a let down. We stayed here for 3 nights. The most expensive place we stayed in Sri Lanka and the worst by far. 3 nights for 630USD what a rip off. Damp room - mould on windows. Dark, depressing room. Blankets, etc musty smelling. No tea making facilities which I wouldn't normally care about but when you are paying $210 a night you would think .... If you have a choice I would go elsewhere. It seems that if you are on a tour party you will most likely end up here. Redeeming features: Staff were nice. The food was OK.

We stayed here for two nights whilst touring Sri Lanka. As everywhere the staff were charming, friendly & polite. The lodges/cottages were simple but comfortable, set in pleasant gardens where monkeys roamed in abundance. They have a nice open-sided restaurant with a good range of food available at the buffet. Wifi was only available in the bar area but, hey, we can't expect everything.

The cottages are simple but clean, spacious and all the bits that matter, function well; the aircon, the bathrooms etc. There are no luxuries (which includes TV/minibar etc but we greatly enjoyed the tranquility and the surroundings. The open air restaurant was satisfactory and the service pleasant and attentive . During our stay it was fairly busy with a number of inconsiderate and noisy diners. The pool area is pleasant but allow for the monkeys who are extraordinarily adept at pinching anything that may look edible.

Stayed one night at this Eco-friendly hotel which is spread out over several acres. Room was spacious and clean. You walk from the cottage rooms to the main open air lodge bar and dining room. Despite several large tour groups staying at the hotel, it did not feel crowded. Wifi was fine in the bar and restaurant area. Beautiful landscaping and care for not harming "God's little babies", ie how they refer to such critters as ants, geckos, etc.
A definite find of a good lodging!
