“The first Boutique Hotel in Sri Lanka still looks lovely!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

Our trip to Sigiriya began at 12 midnight on the 24th May 2013...Getting into Sigiriya adn the turn off to Kimbissa..there were no landmarks into the left turn to the Boutique hotel only from Vil Uyana would you see the signage..So keep that in mind..When you head to the Boutique Hotel there is an enormous handmade elephant(life size) that scared the hell out of the two of us but in the day time I am sure it would look nice...Yet a little bit of light into the premises would make your customers feel at ease. The property is lovely, food and yes particularly Wijeratne. Then the rooms are gorgeous yet the tree frogs that refuse to leave your room unless you get a net to chase it away. The billiards table in the Bar needs to be really looked at as the cues decided to go flying when we wanted to play. And certain areas needs to be cleaned up. The paint is peeling in some of the villas hence a touch up is a must...The food is really good and all in all it is a super experience. I am sure when it was at the epitome of the Boutique Villas, it would have been the grandest of grand however the owners need to really look after it and not give up on the beautiful property it is. The architecture, landscaping and indeed the interior is absolutely lovely. And the 200 acres it sits on is peaceful and definitely a money can never buy. So Thakshila and Lalith you have alot to do to make this the best boutique hotel and the most talked about...But let me tell you your team in all areas are the very best however they need to be a bit assertive and insist that they come in and replenish the tea cups that we have used which were sitting there for days and replenishing the bottles of water. So in order for you to be better than Vil Uyana that you strangely believe is your competitor get your strategies right and then your market share will be won. also get the horses and stables going and you will have a very sexy product:) Think of Vil Uyana as not a competitor but a partner and ride with it..well done! My husband and loved the place and will recommend it for sure....Also need to mention the innovative way they have alphetized the rooms instead of numbering them. The two wings separating the suites are named Upuladevi and Mugulan as a tribute to the sister and brother of King Kassyapa. Hence our suite was UO...nice and creative...Well done Mr Jayawardena and Ms Phillipan!!!

Room Tip: make sure the plunge pool is cleaned and ask the hotel to clean it before. Because when we got ther...

We had a marvelous stay in . Wonderful interiors, very good service and some excellent dining too, must recommend the hotel's Restaurant for the blini and caviar and some exquisite salmon dishes. Very reasonably priced too for a luxury hotel. Different kind of hotel that make you very close to the nature. Situated near to the Sigiriya and have wonderful view and the hotel also have very good award winning different kind of architecture. Big hotel with Big rooms. Five star food and nice swimming pool. Lots of additional activities like elephant riding, bird watching, etc. Worth...

Excellent service and excellent food. The property is good. However it badly needs a touchup as it is 10 years old. If they do a full revamp while maintaining the current structure for the rooms and rest of the hotel it would be an excellent and luxurious place to spend a quiet holiday. At the moment it lacks the feeling of luxury.

This place is amazing! My wife and I booked our stay for the romantic suite originally but we were upgraded to the royal suite; all because the air conditioner in the other suite was being repaired. The royal suite has everything that the presidential suite has except it is smaller which meant only one bed. Which was perfect for us. They upgraded us before our stay for the same rate of the suite that we had booked, which was a lot cheaper than the royal suite. With it, we had two free dinners at the upstairs resturant. The dinners were all five course and they were excellent. The service was beyond all expectations, so friendly. I was blown away by the service there. We were literally treated like royalty. The scenery was breath-taking, the location could not have been more perfect. The suites were awesome, comfty and were cleaned daily. There was so much to do, more than what we could do in the three days that we stayed. My wife and I did not want to leave! One day we will go back.

Overpriced and lacking quality
Money needs to be injected to bring it back up to scratch to what once was a five star hotel.
If this hotel was half the price you would be getting good value....it isnt. Look around, there are some great hotels at half the price.
The standard is much lower than other hotels on our tour..Very disappointed.

Great location though

Room Tip: if you want star quality - look at Ullagalla resort - Now thats five star

This hotel was amazing we were met with flowers and cool drinks, friendly staff that couldn't do enough for us.Set in the most beautiful park with the occasional elephant wandering through(we didn't see any but did see the evidence on our nature walk) we couldn't have wished for more. First class rooms with the wow factor and the biggest shower I have ever seen all beautifully kept and clean.
Excellent food with wonderful service,we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary here and were thoroughly spoilt by the staff that went the extra mile by surprising us with wine a cake and decorating our table. All in all an amazing place to stay.

Room Tip: Every room was superb

The original concept of this hotel was probably as a 'world hotel'. A lot of effort has gone into its design and setup and it really delivers something quite different in terms of a travel experience and in a good way!

The staff are amazing.... nothing to fault here. The bungalows too are amazing and offer all you could want. They are incredibly clean and well maintained as is all of the property.

We particularly enjoyed our breakfasts in the elevated dining room. The naturalist walk was a pleasure and we saw lots of birds and heard elephant stories. My only feint comment is the strange way of pricing things in US dollars?

Anyway, a wonderful experience and the highlight of our trip! YMMV
