“Very Pleasant Experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

We spent two nights at Kassapa Lions Rock and were very well impressed with the hotel. The hotel is placed in the middle of the forest and you can enjoy the quietness of the place, including the birds singing. The room has a good space and with an awesome open shower with sky view. You can easily find many birds, and even wild peacocks roaming the gardens of the hotel.

We spent three nights at Kassapa Lions Rock and were impressed from the start by the warm welcome and eagerness of all staff to please. Our first night room was good but, as the hotel was less busy the second night, we were moved to an even better room (not requested by us) with a first floor balcony and jungle view. The rooms were exceptionally clean and very well appointed. Bar and waiting staff were friendly and efficient and there was no hestation in them setting up an outside dining table for us in the gardens for the second two nights. Breakfast and dinner, served as a buffet, both had a wide range of Sri Lanka and European foods. Ample quantities and all of a very good quality.
Kassapa is well placed for many important local attractions, including Lions Rock and the Elephant safari. It offered a restful break after busy days out and we would definately recommend this hotel.

For this section of our travels we had the fortunes of having a driver. This matter is important for those travellers on lower budgets as we had for the latter 10 days of our trip. I would only recommend you come here with a driver (in fact...you can only come here with a driver).

This wonderful resort has little cabins that are NOT little. Plush inside, rooms have air con and are extremely clean to a very high standard. Room service is fab with a fruit salad on each day we stayed. The pool is needed in the hot cultural triangle and the restaurant was alright.

Having a buffet breakfast (is dangerous(!) but) great. And the food in the restaurant is pretty good.

The only negative is probably the lack of competition with restaurants meaning you have very little choice other than going here. Not a bad "forced" decision though.

Room Tip: They are all fab and I think all the same.

We had two nights at this supposedly 4* hotel and it was by far the worst we stayed in Sri Lanka and perhaps the worst we stayed at in our travels around Asia. Issues we had:

- far overpriced for the quality of the room. First was drab, torn curtains that didn't close fully, dirty room. The 'chalet' is a poorly constructed brick and concrete box and in no way charming as you may picture. We were moved to a larger room that smelt unpleasant, had a filthy bathroom (bugs crawling around, poorly painted, dirty bath, etc).
- linen was pretty much all dirty, including stained brown towels, bath mat, stains on bedding.
- food was dreadful, bland, oversalted and they got our orders wrong. Both times we had room service the staff forgot to bring cutlery and most of the food was at best, lukewarm.
- the manager arranged a taxi that was a battered old car unlike the far better ones we'd had previously in the trip. When we asked to change it for the trip to the airport as it wouldn't fit our bags, we got an aggressive call from the taxi company put through to our room by the front desk.
- grounds are unspectacular in the extreme, despite comments.
- the 'businss centre' is just the hotel office and they want to charge for slow or not working internet by using the manager's computer.

Overall this is a well-overpriced and very poor hotel. Staff are by the manager's admission, undertrained and underqualified. It's a pretty unprofessional outfit run for tour groups. If you're looking to stay in the area there are plenty of other options. It was sadly a poor end to an otherwise great trip.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel!

We booked this hotel through booking.com and we stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in July. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip in Sri Lanka but Sigiriya was the most astonishing place we visited in this trip. 'Kassapa hotel was very small chalet type hotel in sigiriya. Considering the category of the hotel this is very good hotel and money was well worth spending. For its type its very clean and tidy place but there was few things need to mentioned that will help to improve the overall guest experience in the future. Rooms: are nice clean and equipped with modern amenities. Lay out of the rooms are impressive but electrical wiring in the room was visible and they were without proper insulation and to me its a electrical hazard. I think management need to pay attention to the water purification as tap water seems to have strange taste due to the "Hardness of the water in the area'. We smelled strong Sewage smell during the stay that gave us very unpleasant experience. Front of the house, spacially reception are is was lacking character and could do with bit more Decor and furniture. Please get rid off 'Tom Cats and stray Dogs from the hotel premises. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, But we believe they need more training and development in order to engage with their gust more effectively. But need to mentioned they are very humble people. We have to give credit to the houskeeping team for their best effort. We thought food in "Kassapa" hotel is best in Sri Lanka. we have tried food in few hotels in srilanka but "kassapa" is unarguably the best place to go for food. we will forgive all other negative things for this fact. Colorfull Buffet, vibrant BBQ night, International night were the highlights of the stay in Kassapa". We were very happy to see traditional Srilankan food corner as well as European food among the buffet. Well balance European menu showed the skill of a master chef's touch. certainly this is a good sign. Thanks for serving strange but rather interesting Sri Lankan fruits verities. Excellent breakfast buffet ! lots of verities ! Despite all the criticism we had lovely time and we will go there again. hope you will fix all the small problems of the hotel and you have great future. Good luck !

This hotel is set in a beautiful location with a stunning reception. The rooms are clean and well presented. Part of the attraction is the isolation ensuring a very peaceful stay however this does mean you would need a driver or organised transport if staying here. At breakfast there is a very large selection in the buffet, with everything from traditional Sri lankan breakfasts to western and continental options. There is an a la carte menu throughout the day with an equally good range. At dinner, much like breakfast there is an enormous buffet with lots of traditional Sri lankan dishes and always a more western option. Overall the dining experience is wonderful. There is a lovely pool which is kept very clean by attentive staff. All the staff are helpful and friendly and can't be faulted. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Sri Lanka!

Kassapa is a very good place to stay for a couple of days. The bungalows are very nice and clean. The shower is beautifull. The staff is very friendly. if you book half board you have a very good buffet every night. The hotel is well situated to visit Sigriya rock and dambulla cave tempel. We also made a very nice safari tour in minyerva park. The hotel is mainly focussed on large tour groups but is still good voor single travellers. The pool is very nice to cool down in after a nice walk in the surroundings.
