Easy to find and well located, however the positives stop there! We had to phone a number printed on the door to summon an owner to let us check in, despite them having known when we were due to arrive - this is symbolic of the lack of care we were shown throughout our very short stay. We had booked four nights, and on entering our room we were happy to overlook problems such as a toilet that did not flush, huge numbers of insects, no toilet paper and mosquito nets with holes in them. We are on a budget and issues like these do sometimes arise.
The first significant disappointment was when our 500 rupee pp dinner arrived and consisted of tasteless, dry noodles with the minimum of vegetables and one bony, dry and flavourless chicken leg perched on the top (the vegetarian option was merely this minus the chicken). This was both the worst meal we had in our three weeks in sri lanka and one of the most expensive.
However we did not have to put up with these issues for as long as expected because we were thrown out within 6 hours of arrival because we had dared to book a (much cheaper) safari with someone other than the owner! They are far from 'charming' as the guide suggests, in fact the owner and his wife shouted at us across the guesthouse dining room which was full of other guests, and then stormed out like petulant children! We did follow and attempt to apologise, however we were told that the low room rate included an assumption that we would go on their safari, and he could give the room to another (presumably more profitable) group.
These people have a constant flow of unsuspecting and unfortunate guests due to their undeserved lonely planet recommendation, and they are happy to take advantage of this. They know that even if every guest walked out in disgust one night, there would be a fresh contingent arriving tomorrow! Don't go there, it is not worth it.
