“Fantastic Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2010

Definitely best hotel we stayed at in Sri Lanka.

Good location adjacent to the Mahaveli Ganga river with plenty of birdlife to be seen and heard in tranquility.

Had a private driver and car so very convenient for Temple of The Tooth, and also for main roads north and south.

Best tasting Sri Lankan food we ate on holiday. We spent 2 nights here and experienced no real negatives.

Spent two days in this hotel, used most of the facilities. Overall had a very good experience.

The location was great, next to the river, though about 4 kms from the main city.

The pool was nice, sitting by the poolside next to the river enjoying a drink was very relaxing. The food buffet was very decent, the a la carte options were also well made and tasty.

The room was comfortable with nice touches and a balcony with a great view.

There is not much to do in Kandy, so you might end up spending a decent amount of time in the Hotel, keeping that in mind you will not be dissapointed.

Stayed one night here on our tour. Just outside Kandy but not too far away and nicely positioned right on the river with good views of same from the room terrace. Rooms were very comfortable and the hotel has a very nice swimming pool which also overlooks the river. Food (buffet) was absolutely fine but restaurant itself has little atmosphere. Bar area was very pleasant and a good place to relax after a hard days sightseeing. No issues at all but I suspect most people spend one night here whilst touring and that is probably sufficient.

Nice resort with beautiful location. Excellent reception staff. Big rooms with enough space. Breakfast was simple was not very lavish. Overall a great value for money. Big swimming pool and centrally located near the open bar and lounge. Located a little away from the city centre but easily approachable.

Myself and my boyfriend stayed at this hotel in March for 2 nights and it was gorgeous!! We had a room overlooking the Mahaweli river where you could see lone fishermen every morning. The room was big and very clean with a luxury bathroom and good facilities. Mosquito nets were provided each night also. The restaurant served lovely food and overlooked the river and pool. The hotel is big but also very personal. The staff are excellent especially the pool boy who will bring you anything you need. The location is good as it is a few minutes drive from the hussle and bussle of the main city but the hotel is set in such quiet and tranquil settings that you would never believe you were so close. It was a brilliant hotel to stay in and I would definetley recommend especially to couples.

We very much enjoyed our short stay at the Citadel in Kandy, it's in a great location with gorgeous views of the Mahaweli river. The staff were attentive and friendly and the food was fantastic with some excelent local curries on offer.
The rooms were clean with the most gorgeous lotus soaps in the bathrooms! It was slightly annoying not being able to plug in a hair dryer or straighteners because there was not a big enough gap between the pug sockets and the dressing table! This is the only silly little problem I had!
The good location of the hotel means you are not far away from the botanical gardens, tooth temple and the tea gardens in Nuwara Eliya.
