“Great place to stay in Kandy with fine food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

A great place to stay in Kandy with helpful owners, a German lady and her Sri Lankan husband. As other reviewers have said the prices are towards the top end end for guesthouses - but then the quality is too. The rooms are very clean and the food is excellent with people flocking in from outside for the evening buffet. They arrange excellent drivers for tours/transfers. Not the cheapest option but, unlike many places, you do get what you pay for.

Even if you choose not to stay here, you must eat here! The food was incredible and freshly prepared every day. Dinner was served buffet style ( but not 'cooked last week and kept luke warm' type of buffet) with a choice of about 15 typical Sri Lankan dishes all explained by the owner. Lovely girl who serves all the meals too with always wearing a beautiful smile.

Rooms and entire guesthouse kept spotlessly cleaned by the hard working staff. The owner was also always on hand to help arrange any tours or a tuk tuk into town.

Only negative, and this is totally unrelated to the hotel, would be the how dark the lane up the hotel is at night. I was travelling with my boyfriend and still attracted some unwanted and slightly scarey attention when walking back at night one time. Women travelling alone or even in a group be careful when out and about after dark. Again, not related to our wonderful stay at this guesthouse but a light advisory for Sri Lanka as a whole I think.

Sharon Inn is a beautifully clean, well located and reasonably priced guest house. Unlike some of the other places we have stayed in Sri Lanka, it really felt like a home and so well cared for. It was fantastic! The owners are kind, courteous and so welcoming. In contrast to some of the comments here, we felt very welcome and even ended up staying an extra night in Kandy as we liked the place so much. Certainly there is a certain British sense of human that the owner has and perhaps you could mistake his wry tone for something else if you do not share a similar sense of humour- but quite frankly this fact made us feel all the more at home! He and his wife are lovely, knowledgeable, bright people ready to have a chat with each guest and put them at their ease. They also went out of their way to advise and accommodate us when we were working out the next stage of our trip- what more can you ask for?!

Finally, if you do stay here, or come to Kandy, you MUST have the buffet here. The food is easily the best curry I have ever tasted and such good value- do not miss it!!

I spent three days in Kandy and felt at home at Sharon Inn.

Very friendly personal, A+ cuisine (best rice & curry I had in Sri Lanka) and Mr Faiesz who helped me a lot and managed even to find a room in Ella in the impossible period of New Year.

Thank you all!

This was the 2nd of 4 places we stayed in Sri Lanka, and one of the cleanest. We chose an airconditioned room - it was large and airy , has a balcony where you can sit, and a large bathroom.

The Sri Lankan buffet dinner consists of a good variety of food and very delicious, We ate one other buffet meal at another hotel and it was no comparison to this. Faiz was a very busy man but he managed to make a number of arrangement for us, including getting train ticket and accomodation for our trip to 2 other places in Sri Lanka.

We stayed at the Sharon Inn from April 1-4, 2013. The best things I can say about this hotel have already been said millions of times in other peoples' reviews: the food is delicious, the beds are comfortable and the place is very clean. These were huge pluses - but there were a number of drawbacks that kept me from giving this hotel a 5 out of 5.
As a few people have already mentioned, there are a lot of rules at the Sharon Inn (examples: you must leave your key at the hotel when you go out for the day, and you are not supposed to buy outside beer and bring it to your room). We also did not find that the owners were particularly warm and seemed to be mostly interested in finding out what we were doing, and making sure we used their services, tuk-tuks and tours, as much as possible. This is their business and perhaps not their passion.
Another huge drawback for me (because I really like quiet places) was the fact that another guesthouse has their outdoor patio directly outside of rooms on the second and third floors. We were booked into room 5, and were disturbed 2 out of the 3 nights we stayed there by people hanging out on the neighbouring patio. They were not out very late (11pm), but still, it was as loud as if the people had been in our room.
We asked the owner to contact the other guesthouse and ask them to keep the noise level down, and although he did finally call this place, his first suggestion was that we lean out the window and tell the people to be quiet ourselves.
The Sharon Inn is still a good place to stay - but I wonder if you wouldn't get a warmer reception somewhere else.

Room Tip: Room 5 faces directly out on to the neighbouring guesthouse's patio.

The rooms on the top floor are amazing with an stunning view to the city. Besides there's an entrance to the top terrace that gives you a 360 view. A bit pricey but totally worth it for a relaxed, safe good night sleep.
Besides they arrange dinners for 1100 R which are delish with a great service!!
