“Shabby treatment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

I can't comment on the facilities because we were unable to stay . The very rude and callous owners not honoring our reservation made at least 6 weeks previously .
I confirmed that we were coming 2 days before as requested , but by phone . Because i didn't do this by email, when we arrived we were told the room was gone and they were full. No hint of this was given to me in my phone conversation . I was told I needed to be there by 6pm or the room could not be held . We went to the expense of hiring a car to make sure we got there on time and arrived at 4pm to be rudely turned away , and the owners knew the Kandy Hotels were all full.
We are in our 60's and this treatment appalled us . No Sri Lankan hospitality here.

As a cheap and cheerful place to stay it ticks the right boxes, however the owners are very rude and can make for an uncomfortable stay. We were also charged a much higher price than a certain guide book suggests.

I can't comment on accommodation here, as I didn't stay; but was recommended to eat here by a local B&B owner. The food here obviously had good ingredients, but their buffet was execrable. Absolutely no local authentic taste, presumably tailored for local (Western) tourist groups.

I can recomment this place any time. There are many places in that area, we checked only this and very satisfied at once. It was super clean, wellkept and wellbuilt, balconies, small garden, nice owner, lokal buffet for dinner, ok price. Stay there and you will not regret! Nothing extraordinary, just a very, very nice relaxing place to stay!!

Best thing about this inn is the buffet dinner for 1100 rupees. rooms are simple and clean. There is air conditioning in room but you have to pay more for this. however there is a ceiling fan and in kandy this is all you need. it is at the top of a hill so have to walk up or get a tuk tuk for 200 rupees. couple of eccentricities like you have to be in by 11 however you would struggle to find anything to do in kandy past 10. Booked through hotels.com and be aware that if you want to pay by card on checkout there is a 3.5% charge which was not made clear. We were also asked to pay on returning the night before checking out which was a bit rude i thought. apparently more convenient for them. would try somewhere else if returning to kandy.

This hotel is for Sri lankas hotel tourists rather than backpackers.

It's clean and rooms are maintained to a high standard.

At 5500 rupees a night it's more for your mid range tourists. The rooms are comfortable and very clean.

There are needless luxuries such as flatscreen tvs in the bedrooms.

Food is good though again its 8 times the price of the equivalent in kandy town.

The owners are shrewd business people and a one night stay can soon turn into four. They organise drivers for tours to the surrounding attractions.

Overall a good choice.

The quiet hillside on this side of the lake in Kandy is peppered with hotels and guest houses, and the prices and variety is wide. We chose the Sharon Inn after a recommendation from a fellow traveler. The Inn is expertly run by Fajesz and his wife. They are meticulous and professional, and take pride in providing clean comfortable rooms, and a pleasant tranquil atmosphere. The rooms with views are really quite nice and start at 5500 LKR. We stayed our first night at a higher level room (6500) and it was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We had to switch to a lower level room the following night due to a previous booking (book ahead, they are busy), and the room was equally clean and comfortable with less wow out the window and balcony.

Our first night we skipped the dinner buffet (1100 LKR pp), and I regretted this the second night, as it may have been the best meal we ate while on tour. It consisted of 8 courses of Si Lankan curries, and was expertly prepared by the local women staffing the Sharon's kitchen.
Breakfast was your standard toast and eggs (included w/ room).

Kandy city, the bus station and train depot is a short walk down the hilly road, and easily accessible from the Inn.

Don't bother having your laundry done here (it is very expensive)

Don't skip the dinner, but book ahead, because they have limited seating, and only prepare food for the scheduled guests.

Room Tip: spend the extra and get a room with a good view
